Despite the popularity of the hit TV show Full House, many plot holes and inconsistencies exist that bother fans over two and a half decades later. Between 1988 and 1995, Full House follows a widowed father named Danny Tanner who allows his best friend Joey and his brother-in-law Jesse to move in to care for his three daughters DJ, Stephanie, and Michelle. When focusing on the girls, the show explores the ups and downs of growing up. With the plots centered on adults, Full House shows the challenges of co-parenting.
Despite the strengths of the show, Full House is also known for its numerous plot holes, continuity errors, and retcons. This is a typical problem found in sitcoms that run for many years. Many mistakes in the show are small, such as the placement of Stephanie’s barrettes. However, bigger problems also exist which are harder to ignore. Ultimately, fans of Full House can laugh at the downright silly errors they overlooked while still enjoying the heartwarming feeling of watching the series.
The Tanners’ House Layout Is Physically Impossible
One of the most iconic shots in the Full House introduction is the outside of the house. Though it’s a beautiful image, it creates one of many issues with the layout of the building. As seen from the outside, there is no attic or pitched roof, two notable features seen on the inside of the house. The floor plan of the building possesses more issues as well. For instance, two sets of stairs in Full House take everyone to the same place upstairs; however, the staircases don’t physically converge, meaning one doesn’t exist. Additionally, sometimes the staircase leading downstairs is a garage, and other times it’s a basement.
So, Did Uncle Jesse Graduate In Full House Or Not?
In season 4 of Full House, Uncle Jesse gets invited to his ten-year high school reunion. They show a flashback of him the day before his ceremony confirming in his dialogue that he’s graduating. This is later contradicted in season 6, episode 6, “Educating Jesse,” when he admits that he dropped out of high school. With the support of his family, Uncle Jesse returns to high school, which he graduates in season 6, episode 19, “Subterranean Graduation Blues.” The season 6 story arc is compelling and inspiring for children and adults alike; however, it leaves viewers to wonder what happened in the 24 hours after the flashback.
How Old Are Alex And Nicky?
Though they’re beloved parts of the Tanner family, many things about Alex and Nicky don’t make sense in Full House. The children of Uncle Jesse and Aunt Becky are born in November, which would make them around eight months old at the time of Full House season 5, episode 26, “Captain Video, Part 2.” However, at the start of season 6, they appear to be between 18 and 24 months old based on their physical development and abilities. The problem is that only six weeks have passed between the two seasons, marked by the duration of DJ’s school trip.
The Attic Apartment Disappears In Fuller House
In Fuller House, the Full House reboot, Stephanie and DJ move back into their childhood home along with Kimmy Gibbler. They share the space with their romantic partners and children. Kimmy, Fernando, and Ramona live in the attic throughout Fuller House. Despite this, the characters go up into the attic numerous times to find it in a dirty, unrenovated, and cluttered state. This is impossible unless two attics exist, but the home itself shouldn’t even have one based on the external shots.
How Did Danny Afford The House?
At the start of Full House, Danny Tanner is supposed to be a widowed 30-year-old father of three children who works as a reporter in San Francisco. He must live with his brother-in-law and best friend in order to care for his children, a choice that indicates he likely can’t afford childcare. This raises the question: how did Danny afford the house that they live in? According to Romper, the Victorian-style home would’ve cost $725,000 in 1990, two years after the show began airing. The Full House house would’ve likely been outside the budget for parents of three paying the mortgage on a reporter’s pay.
Michelle Had Her First Crush At 2 Years Old
In Full House, Michelle develops her first crush at the age of two when she meets a little boy named Howie. However, this plot line is developmentally appropriate for a child of this age. According to Parents, most experts agree that children develop their first crush at the age of five to six at the earliest. Even when Michelle and Howie meet again for the second time, she still wouldn’t fall into the age group at which it’s typical to experience first crushes since she was still three to four years old in season 4.
Danny Went From Messy To Excessively Neat With No Explanation
In Full House season 1, episode 4, “The Return of Grandma,” the house is a wreck with clothing and clutter strewn everywhere. Danny only seems to care that the dishes aren’t done. When his mom comes to visit, she tells Stephanie that hell will freeze over if Danny, Jesse, and Joey can clean the house. Throughout the rest of the season, the house is slightly cleaner but still messy overall. Yet, this doesn’t ever seem to bother Danny. Starting in Full House season 2, Danny can’t stand to have a single item out of place.
Jesse’s Last Name Changes Between Seasons
Between Full House season 1 and season 2, Jesse’s last name was changed from Cochran to Katsopolis. This was done to reflect John Stamos’s heritage as a Greek American. Though this change still bothers viewers, especially since it was never explained in canon, it allowed the show to bring in characters like Stavros and Papouli. Screenwriters even put together Full House season 4, episode 1, “Greek Week,” which centers on Jesse’s Greek extended family coming to visit the Tanners.
Where Does Joey Live In The House?
At the start of Full House, Joey lives in the alcove off the living room. In season 1, episode 10, “Joey’s Place,” They turn the garage/basement into Joey’s bedroom. Two episodes later, he’s back in the alcove again. Over the next four seasons, before he moves into an upstairs bedroom, Joey bounces around from place to place with no clear reason. Luckily, they resolve this issue in season 4, episode 20, “Fuller House,” when he moves into an upstairs room for the rest of the duration of the Full House.
How Many Siblings Does Kimmy Have?
One of the things that make no sense about Kimmy Gibbler is her family life. At one point during Full House, she states she’s an only child. Another time, she says that she has three sisters. At a different time entirely, Kimmy brings up her older brother Garth. Later, she states that she’s the youngest child in her family. Then, in Fuller House, Kimmy has a younger brother named Jimmy who becomes important to the plot. The fact that she doesn’t provide a consistent story about her own family straight makes it seem as if her home life is more dysfunctional in Full House than previously recognized.
