5 Upcoming Kevin Costner Yellowstone Spinoffs You Can’t Miss: From 1944 to Madison
Yellowstone may be coming to an end, but the ranchers’ story will continue in the form of five different spinoffs.
1. 1944
The title 1944 hints at the time period in which the story takes place, following the Duttons through another challenging era in American history. Unlike previous spinoffs like 1883 and 1923, which explored earlier generations of the Dutton family, 1944 is set to take place during World War II, a time of significant change and turmoil in the United States.
Created by Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan, the show was announced to be in development in February 2023. While plot and casting details are still being kept under wraps, the series is likely to be set in 1923 and could feature familiar members of the Dutton family. We could also see a young John Dutton III, the character played by Kevin Costner in the main series, as the prequel is set just 15 years before his birth.
2. 6666
Set in the present day, 6666 focuses on Four Sixes Ranch in Texas, which is also referenced in Yellowstone. In the fourth season of the original series, Jimmy Hurdstrom is seen traveling to Four Sixes Ranch, where he eventually decides to stay permanently after falling in love with Emily. While the plot has yet to be revealed, we can expect to see Jefferson White and Kathryn Kelly reprising their roles as Jimmy and Emily in the new show.
The project was announced in 2022, with Paramount releasing an official logline that reads: “Established when the Comanches still ruled West Texas, no ranch in America is more steeped in Western history than 6666. Still operating as it did two centuries ago and encompassing an entire county, 6666 is a place where law and order and nature come together in a place where the most dangerous thing a man can do is the next thing. 6666 is synonymous with a relentless effort to raise the best horses and cattle in the world, and ultimately where world-class cowboys are born and made.”
3. The Madison
Previously titled 2024, The Madison will feature an entirely new story with a new cast of characters. According to initial reports, the series will tell the story of a wealthy mother named Stacy Clyburn and her family, who leave their lavish lifestyle in New York City and move to a ranch in Montana after Stacy’s husband and brother-in-law die in a plane crash. While the cast has yet to be officially announced, there is speculation that Kurt Russell, Michelle Pfeiffer, Patrick J. Adams, and Beau Garrett could appear in the series.
Michelle Pfeiffer is likely to play Stacy, while the roles of the rest of the cast have yet to be revealed. The series is expected to begin filming in late August 2024, with filming scheduled to take place in Montana, New York, and Texas. The Madison is likely to premiere sometime in 2025.
4. Untitled Yellowstone Sequel
In addition to the spinoffs above, there is another show planned to continue the story of Yellowstone itself. The untitled sequel to the Western drama will mark the return of several of the original cast members. So far, Kelly Reilly as Beth Dutton, Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler, and Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton are said to be joining the series.
The events of the show will take place after the conclusion of Yellowstone Season 5, Part 2. The producers are keeping quiet about the plot for now, but the sequel is expected to take place at the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. More details about the project, including the plot and cast, will likely become clear once the Yellowstone series concludes.
5. 1923 Part 2
Finally, 1923, the established prequel to Yellowstone, will soon return for a second season. Created by Taylor Sheridan, the show focuses on the older generation of the Dutton family, chronicling the challenges they faced after World War I and during the Great Depression.
Starring Harrison Ford as Jacob Dutton and Helen Mirren as Cara Dutton, 1923 delves into the origins of the family’s power and influence in Montana. The series, which also stars Brandon Sklenar, Julia Schlaepfer, Jerome Flynn, Darren Mann, Isabel May and Brian Geraghty, has been a hit with viewers. The new season of the show is currently in production and is set to premiere on Paramount+ in 2025.
