9-1-1 Lone Star’s Looming Cancelation Is More Disappointing Because Of A 9-1-1 Development

  • Speculation on 9-1-1: Lone Star’s cancellation after season 5 sparks disappointment among fans and cast members.
  • A potential crossover with 9-1-1 for a satisfying conclusion seems unlikely, despite previous collaborations between the shows.
  • Fans hope for key storylines to be wrapped up in the final season, including Carlos avenging his father’s death and finding Judd’s replacement.

The recent rumors that 9-1-1: Lone Star will be canceled soon have been made even more disappointing after some other 9-1-1-related news concerning the original series’ relationship with Fox. 9-1-1: Lone Star is about to release its fifth season after a delayed release as a result of the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike. The series follows first responders in Texas and is a spin-off from the action-packed 9-1-1, which follows first responders in Los Angeles. 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 is set to continue intensive storylines that were introduced in season 4, yet the show’s seemingly imminent end tempers any excitement.While 9-1-1: Lone Star has been well-received among critics and audiences, recent quotes and social media posts from cast members imply a bleak future for the show. While Fox has not said for certain whether the show will be renewed for a sixth season, there have been several rumors that the show will be canceled after season 5. The fact that the spinoff could end is already bad enough, but the fact that one potential way for the series to receive a satisfying sendoff is seemingly off-limits makes the news doubly disappointing.

9-1-1: Lone Star’s Possible Ending Misses The Chance For A Final 9-1-1 Crossover

A Crossover Would Recall A Previous Episode

With the rumors that 9-1-1: Lone Star is ending soon, the show would benefit from a potential crossover with the main flagship 9-1-1 series. Such a project could provide a neat symmetry to the narrative and help mitigate any disappointment over unfulfilled story potential. Unfortunately, as the Economic Times has reported, the shows have no plans for a crossover any time soon. While a crossover featuring the Texan characters in LA would be an exciting thing to see, it seems unlikely since 9-1-1: Lone Star is a Fox production and 9-1-1 is ABC’s.

ABC picked up 9-1-1 for its eighth season shortly after it was canceled by Fox in 2023.

What makes the apparent incompatibility of a crossover more frustrating is that there has been a crossover between the two shows before. Season 2, episode 3 of 9-1-1: Lone Star, “Hold The Line,” incorporates elements of both 9-1-1: Lone Star and 9-1-1. With season 5 possibly being the last season of 9-1-1: Lone Starthe crossover episode in season 2 might be the only collaboration between the two shows unless there’s one more combined episode in the upcoming season. However, given the proximity to the last crossover event, since it was only three seasons ago, it is unlikely that there will be another one so soon.

What Needs To Happen In 9-1-1: Lone Star Before It Ends

9-1-1: Lone Star Needs To Continue Unfinished Storylines

The potential last season of the show should also find a well-fitting replacement for Jim Parrack’s Judd Ryder.

9-1-1: Lone Star season 4 tied up all loose ends with a heartfelt season finale but left some storylines open for expansion in the next season. Before the show ends, 9-1-1: Lone Star should show Carlos catching his father’s killer and avenging his death. The end to that storyline would be a powerful conclusion for the character. The potential last season of the show should also find a well-fitting replacement for Jim Parrack’s Judd Ryder. His departure will leave an open role, but the challenge of filling his role would be exciting to watch. Considering that a 9-1-1 crossover event is unlikely, the show needs to make sure it delivers on these arcs.
