Gordon Ramsay fulfils brave girl’s dream before she dies aged just 10 years old
Sophie Fairall inspired the nation after appearing on This Morning on which she explained her had rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare type of cancer that forms in soft tissue in children, and only had six months to live.
A brave little girl who fulfilled her dream of cooking alongside celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey has lost her battle with cancer at the age of 10.
In July 2021, Sophie Fairall’s mum and dad told This Morning’s hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes how she had been diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare type of cancer that forms in soft tissue in children.
It meant that Sophie had just six months to live.
After having a 12-inch tumour removed Sophie had taken the brave decision to refuse any more treatment, Hull Live reports.Sophie’s mum said on the show: “We know what the consequences are of stopping treatment, I think for us, quality of life was definitely more important. “The youngster remained positive and created a ‘bucket list’ of things she wanted to do – which included visiting the This Morning studio.
Since then, she received messages from Ant and Dec, other celebrities, Premier League footballers – and fulfilled a final wish to cook with superstar chef Gordon Ramsay.
In a heart-breaking Facebook post announcing Sophie’s passing, her mum Charlotte thanked well-wishers for their “incredible support” and said Sophie was the “most beautiful, funny, caring, strongest girl ever”, reports the BBC.
“Who would’ve thought a 10-year-old could have such a huge impact on so many people”, wrote Charlotte.
“It feels so surreal and although I knew she was dying I still can’t believe she’s gone.”
She added: “Sophie had so much more to give and it shouldn’t have been this way.
“She was the most beautiful, funny, caring, strongest girl ever.”
A Just Giving fundraising page in her name has raised more than £55,000 for the children’s cancer charity Alice’s Arc.
Mum Charlotte has now launched a petition calling for more government funding to go towards research and curing childhood cancer.
