Who Is The Father Of Charmaine’s Twins On Virgin River?
When we return to Virgin River in Season 5, Part 1, Jack and Mel are still reeling from Charmaine’s truth bomb. At the end of the Season 5 premiere, a furious Jack finally goes to confront Char, and at the top of Episode 2, he gains some additional clarity on the situation.
He asks how Char could be so selfish and why she lied. He says he humiliated him and broke his heart. And after apologizing, Char explained why she did what she did. She reminds Jack that he broke her heart first and it was torture watching him fall for Mel. She didn’t want to lose Jack forever, so she lied. Plus, she says that sleeping with the twins’ real biological father — who she refuses to name — was “a one-time thing.”
“He’s not cut-out to be a father,” she tells Jack. “He’s not like you. I lied to give the twins a future — someone to provide for us.”
For the rest of Season 5, Part 1, viewers are left to wonder which Virgin River man fathered Char’s twins, and the answer is finally revealed in the Part 1 finale. At the end of Season 5, Episode 10, “Labor Day,” a very pregnant Charmaine is shown leaving the town carnival, and when she arrives at her car, she gets a visit from — wait for it — Calvin (David Cubitt). GASP!
In shock and need a Calvin refresher? The character is Virgin River’s notorious gang leader/drug lord/money launderer who was presumed dead in Season 4 after his boat exploded in front of Brie and Mike. In the Season 5, Part 1 finale, Calvin limps up to Char with cane in hand, prompting her to admit she thought he was dead. Calvin replies, “So did the person who tried to kill me. I don’t have to hide from her anymore.” (We’re assuming that’s Melissa, since she took over the town’s nefarious operations in his absence.)
When Char asks Calvin what he wants, he says, “You know what I want. I want to be a father to my boys.” Anything can happen in Virgin River, but judging from this latest Charmaine cliffhanger, it looks like Calvin is the father of her twins, which Jack (and pretty much everyone else in town) won’t be happy about. Here’s hoping we get some more clarity in Season 5, Part 2, expected later this year.
