Netflix has shared an official trailer for Bridgerton season 3 part 2.
The trailer opens with gossip about Colin and Penelope’s engagement.
The bright mood quickly turns sour when Penelope’s secret identity as Lady Whistledown threatens her relationship.
A trailer for Bridgerton season 3, part 2 teases that Penelope faces a major predicament due to her Lady Whistledown secret. The first half of Penelope and Colin’s romantic story ended with the couple finally confessing their feelings for each other, with a marriage proposal on the way. However, this happy moment may be short-lived as Penelope’s double life as Lady Whistledown becomes the center of the next four episodes, which will precede the upcoming Bridgerton season 4 as the current season was split into two parts. The trailer opens in a light and frothy mood as Penelope, using the voice of Lady Whistledown, reports her own engagement and sets the local gossip mill alight. However, her secret identity as the gossip columnist threatens to tear the couple apart, both from external factors (considering the people who already know about the secret) and from internal ones, as Penelope’s double life begins to cause her immense guilt.
What’s Going To Happen To Lady Whistledown After Bridgerton Season 3?
Is The Julie Andrews-Voiced Narrator Going Away?
As this trailer emphasizes, Julie Andrews’ voice-only part in the Bridgerton cast as the fictional Lady Whistledown is inherently tied to Penelope Featherington’s writing. The trailer also seems to showcase that Penelope’s secret will come out by the end of the finale. This is exceedingly likely to happen, as this is something that occurred in the original books as well. On the page, Lady Whistledown was retired after Penelope’s public exposure.
Because of this, future romances of the Bridgerton family that are covered in upcoming seasons of the Netflix show might not feature the now-iconic Julie Andrews narration. This could be the case even though season 3 is technically adapting book 4, skipping over the main romance featured in book 3. In the wake of such a major change, season 4 could struggle to feel the same as the previous three seasons, even though it will likely feature much of the same onscreen cast.
However, there are ways for Bridgerton to both retire the Lady Whistledown moniker and still retain Julie Andrews as a narrator. The extended universe of the show already proved this was possible with the prequel show Queen Charlotte, which also featured some narration from Andrews’ Whistledown in spite of the fact that Penelope was not using the pseudonym during the timeline of the spinoff. Based on this precedent, the show may find a way retain its narration while still paying lip service to the gossip page no longer being in operation.
