Bridgerton creator Shonda Rhimes has shared her reaction to the highly-anticipated finale of season three.
The Netflix period drama returns on 13th June with the final four episodes of the season as we continue to follow the romance between Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan).
During an interview on the TODAY Show, Rhymes revealed how she reacted when she watched part two’s finale.
“We’re very secretive about it, but I will say it is sexy and surprising in many ways. And also, I cried at the end,” she said.
“I found it very moving – and I don’t always cry. So I really got into it. I think it’s a beautiful story.”
Actors Nicola and Luke have also teased a rocky engagement lies ahead for their characters Colin and Penelope, especially as Penelope tries to maintain her secret identity as Lady Whistledown.
Speaking to The Canadian Press while on a press tour in Toronto, Nicola said: “We filmed these beautiful romantic scenes and it was all wonderful and nice, and then I go ‘Oh God, she hasn’t told him’.
“[It was] very stressful. I know that sounds really silly because it’s not real, but I really hate lying, I’m a bad liar.”
However, Luke said that fans of Colin and Penelope would not be disappointed and that he understood why their relationship was so special to viewers.
“People really resonate with these two characters, and I think it’s something to do with the shared experience that fans and viewers have watched their relationship sort of develop very slowly through seasons one and two,” he explained.
