Phylicia Rashad, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Victoria Clark, Jordan Donica Set to Enter HBO’s Gilded Age
Even more theatre stars will be part of the upcoming third season of Julian Fellowes’ Manhattan-set TV drama.
Even more theatre stars will be featured in the forthcoming third season of the HBO drama The Gilded Age. Created by Julian Fellowes, the series takes place in turn-of-the-century New York and follows new money socialite Bertha Russell as she navigates high society.
Newcomers to the company will include Tony winner Phylicia Rashad (A Raisin in the Sun, Skeleton Crew) and Tony nominee Jordan Donica (Camelot) in recurring roles plus Tony winners Brian Stokes Mitchell (Kiss Me, Kate; Ragtime) and Victoria Clark (The Light in the Piazza, Kimberly Akimbo) in guest-starring roles.
Rashad, Donica, and Mitchell will play members of the Kirkland family with Mitchell as the patriarch Frederick, husband to Eilzabeth (Rashad) and father of Dr. William Kirkland (Donica). Frederick is the pastor of a prominent Black church and a leader in the Newport community.
Clark will play Joan Carlton, a kind woman from the old money side of New York high society who is supportive of her son but surprised to find herself in a complicated situation.
The season two cast included Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Morgan Spector, Louisa Jacobson, Denée Benton, Ben Ahlers, Michael Cerveris, Kelley Curran, Taissa Farmiga, Jack Gilpin, Simon Jones, Sullivan Jones, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Debra Monk, Donna Murphy, Kristine Nielsen, Kelli O’Hara, Patrick Page, Harry Richardson, Taylor Richardson, Blake Ritson, Douglas Sills, Erin Wilhelmi, Nathan Lane, Audra McDonald, John Douglas Thompson, Ashlie Atkinson, Laura Benanti, Nicole Brydon Bloom, Christopher Denham, David Furr, Ward Horton, Matilda Lawler, and Robert Sean Leonard.
Created, written, and executive-produced by Fellowes, the creative and producing team also includes writer and executive producer Sonja Warfield, executive producer Gareth Neame, executive producer David Crockett, director and executive producer Michael Engler, director and executive producer Salli Richardson-Whitfield, executive producer Bob Greenblatt, and historical consultant and co-executive producer Erica Dunbar.
Casting for the series is by Bernie Telsey and Adam Caldwell from the Telsey Office.
The Gilded Age is a co-production between HBO and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
A premiere date for the new season has yet to be announced.
