Elon Musk is getting pulled over his response to a clip from the new movie “Leave the World Behind.”
The billionaire responded to a scene in which Julia Roberts’s character has to dodge Teslas that have been hacked via the company’s self-driving software. In the clip shared by Netflix, a stream of autonomous EVs is shown piling up on the highway as Roberts’ character flees.
In a post on X, Musk responded to the scene featuring his EVs by saying, “Teslas can charge from solar panels even if the world goes fully Mad Max and there is no more gasoline!”
Several X users have suggested the Tesla CEO failed to understand the segment, which was meant to demonstrate how tech can be leveraged against humanity.
“Completely missed the point of that scene,” one user said in response to Musk’s comment. “They were self-driving Teslas, driving themselves to that road via GPS, to crash into each other blocking the way out. Another reason why this type of tech is dumb.”
Another X user added: “If Elon actually watched it he’d know that his comment has nothing to do with it.”
One user even accused the billionaire of being “triggered” by the scene: “Best thing about “Leave the World Behind” is it triggered Elon.”
The doomsday thriller “Leave the World Behind” is, among other things, a cautionary tale about society’s blind faith in technology.
The Netflix film was released in late November and has proved popular on the streaming platform despite mixed reviews.
