Former Bridgerton star Ruby Stokes is all set to grace our screens in the much-anticipated BBC series The Jetty, where she’ll be sharing the spotlight with Jenna Coleman, Archie Renaux, and Amelia Bullmore. The series launches on BBC One on Monday, July 15.
At just 23, Ruby has already made a splash as Francesca Bridgerton in Netflix’s hit series Bridgerton, appearing in the first two seasons before passing the baton to Hannah Dodd for the third season. Post-Bridgerton, Ruby’s been on a roll, featuring in Paramount+’s The Burning Girls and Netflix’s Lockwood & Co last year, projects that led to her Bridgerton exit due to scheduling clashes.
Now, Ruby is poised to captivate audiences once again in The Jetty on BBC, stepping into the role of Hannah, the daughter of lead character Ember Manning, played by Jenna Coleman.
The gripping synopsis for The Jetty teases: “When a fire tears through a property in a scenic Lancashire lake town, Detective Ember Manning (Jenna Coleman) must work out how it connects to a podcast journalist investigating a missing person cold case, and an illicit relationship between a man in his twenties and two underage girls.”
“But as Ember gets close to the truth, it threatens to destroy her life forcing her to re-evaluate everything she thought she knew about her past, present and the town she’s always called home. As much a coming-of-age story as a detective thriller, The Jetty asks big questions about sexual morality, identity and memory, in the places that Me Too has left behind.”, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Cat Jones, the writer, creator and executive producer of the show, gave some insight into what viewers can expect from the characters Ember, Hannah and Sylvia in the upcoming series.
Speaking to the BBC, she said: “Ember, played by the brilliant Jenna Coleman, is our central character. She goes on a journey trying to find answers for crimes that were committed, but she’s also on a very personal journey of self-discovery where she’s looking back at her past and re-assessing whether the things that happened to her were okay.”
“Her mum Sylvia played by Amelia Bullmore, and her daughter Hannah, played by Ruby Stokes, are really impacted by her soul searching and the three of them form the spine of the show.”
