A Famous Chef Called Out Gordon Ramsay For His Behavior On TV

  • Eric Ripert has criticized Gordon Ramsay’s behavior on TV, claiming it sets a bad example for chefs.
  • Ramsay fired back aggressively in response to Ripert’s criticisms in an interview on Watch What Happens Live .
  • Despite their common success, Ramsay and Ripert have a long history of public feuding over TV conduct.

After years of starring in reality shows, Gordon Ramsay has become very famous and he also has a fortune he enjoys spending. However, even though Gordon is beloved enough that he appeared on Hot Ones and broke a record, that doesn’t mean everything goes his way.

Unfortunately for Gordon, he has a long history of feuding with famous people. For example, Gordon didn’t put up with a star who bashed his restaurant and he feuded with the person who launched his career. Even still, it was remarkable when an incredibly famous chef called out Gordon’s behavior on Hell’s Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares.

Eric Ripert Hates The Way Gordon Ramsay Has Behaved On Kitchen Nightmares And Hell’s Kitchen

Looking at everything that Eric Ripert has accomplished during his career, it is hard to overstate how successful he has been. After all, Eric is a world-class chef who has spent years winning endless culinary awards, as he owns and operates a three-Michelin-star restaurant, Le Bernardin, in New York City.

Similarly, Gordon Ramsay has become an incredibly successful chef as well. Gordon has been awarded a staggering number of Michelin stars. He is also arguably the most famous TV chef of all time.

Given everything the two men have in common, it seems like Gordon and Eric should see eye-to-eye in a lot of ways. In reality, however, Eric has repeatedly called out the way Gordon behaves on TV.

In September 2010, Eater published an article that detailed two times that Eric took Gordon to task. The first of those two instances came during a conversation that Eric had with the widely respected and dearly departed chef, Anthony Bourdain.

How rich are Gordon Ramsay and Eric Ripert, according to Celebrity Net Worth?

While talking to Anthony, Eric argued that Gordon’s behavior on television was setting a bad example. Eric then went much further than that by stating that he believed that Gordon had to be ashamed of how he has behaved on some level.

“[Ramsay’s] doing something on TV that’s absolutely scandalous. He’s supposedly entertaining on TV and showing that abusing people is the right thing to do. I think it’s totally, excuse me for the word, bulls***… He goes back home, I go back home. I look at myself in the mirror, I’m happy with myself. I am not sure he is happy with himself looking in the mirror.”

Eater’s article also revealed a tweet that Eric posted in which he expressed his frustrations with Gordon. That tweet, which has since been deleted, began with Eric commenting on how he believed chefs should behave in kitchens.

“Smart chef lead kitchen by sharing, teaching, inspiring with respect. Not insulting, abusing, humiliating their team.”

Eric then went on to describe the way Gordon behaved in kitchens on TV as an example of the way powerful chefs should not act.

“Nothing personal against Gordon Ramsay but he is a poor inspiration for professional chefs in his shows. Who perform better scared, insulted? … I have my bad days [too] but always try to improve. TV or not it is no excuse! Ultimately I believe in the goodness of Gordon but he is very wrong.”

Unfortunately for Gordon, 2010 wasn’t the last year that Eric called him out. Instead, Eric used Twitter/X to post criticisms of Gordon on February 19, 2011. This time, Eric’s posts were even harsher than before.

In the first of Eric’s 2011 tweets about Gordon, he wrote about his reaction after watching an episode of Kitchen Nightmares. In that case, Eric concluded that Gordon was a bad leader and that the show had racist content.

“Watched kitchen nightmares = RACIST content, verbal abuse, humiliation etc. Shame on Gordon & production of show! Not an inspiration of leadership.”

Only a half hour after that first tweet, Eric followed it with a second. Eric seemed to be using the second tweet to explain why he felt the episode of Kitchen Nightmares he watched had racist content.

“Episode of K..Nighmares I’m ref to is about [grasshopper restaurant]. Racism when [addressing] to Latino staff. Gordon [touch his] nose, leak his finger?!”

While that second tweet is a little bit hard to decipher in parts, it seemed that Eric claimed that a grasshopper remark was racist.

Gordon Ramsay Once Brutally Clapped Back At Eric Ripert

Since Gordon Ramsay once walked out during a TV interview after his looks were insulted, it always seemed obvious Eric’s criticism would anger him. Still, what happened after Gordon got the chance to respond to Eric’s criticisms was pretty amazing.

Many years after Eric’s 2011 tweets went viral, Gordon appeared on Watch What Happens Live. A clip of Gordon’s appearance on the show that was posted on X/Twitter revealed how viciously he clapped back at Eric.

The clip begins with host Andy Cohen asking Gordon why Eric seems to have a problem with him. Gordon was then asked if the feud with Eric was one-sided. In response, Gordon made a very dismissive remark about Eric.

After Gordon’s remark got a huge laugh, he admitted that he was joking and took on a more conciliatory tone. “I’m joking. Come on… He’s a French chef, right? And he’s a little bit upset about my conduct, and the way I run kitchens.”

However, it quickly became very clear that Gordon wasn’t done clapping back at Eric. Instead, Gordon went on to basically state that Eric was being hypocritical and then he told him off in no uncertain terms.

“I think [Eric] has a very short memory about the way he used to run his kitchens. And, some chefs, when they get into their later age, they, sort of, start to become a philosopher, but he needs to think back to the early ’90s because I did employ a few chefs from him and uh, he should shut the f**k up.”
