As Virgin River season 6 continues filming, more and more details about the upcoming season keep trickling out. Cameras started rolling on the highly anticipated sixth season back in February 2024, and according to a recent photo released from set, production is getting so close to the finish line.
Unfortunately, Netflix has confirmed that we’ll be waiting until 2025 to watch season 6, but the new season will be well worth the wait. After all, Benjamin Hollingsworth already teased that the season turns the heat up on the romance, and series stars Alexandra Breckenridge and Zibby Allen announced their podcast coming out this summer.
Virgin River fans will have to tune into the podcast for any additional teases about season 6, but we received a huge update on a behind-the-camera change. Martin Henderson continues to prove his extensive talents, as he’s taking on a new role as director in the sixth season.
Martin Henderson directing Virgin River season 6 episode
On April 22, the official Virgin River Instagram account announced that Martin Henderson will be making his directorial debut with an episode of season 6. In the photo, Henderson sits in a director’s chair on set holding a film slate. Those with eagle eyes will notice that the film slate says “608,” meaning that the Jack actor will likely be directing episode 8 of season 6.
The implications of the cast and crew filming the eighth episode of season 6 shouldn’t be lost on fans. It’s already confirmed that season 6 will contain 10 episodes, which means if episode 8 has entered the production process, filming is nearing its end. Still, the season won’t be released until 2025. But it’s at least comforting knowing that we might not be waiting too far into 2025 for new episodes.
From looking at the comments of the post, Henderson’s receiving a lot of praise from his fellow costars, with Hollingsworth calling him “Martin ‘Scorsese’ Henderson,” and Mark Ghanimé saying he’s proud of his costar and joking that he’s playing Jack in the episode . You love to see that kind of support between cast members when they branch out to something new!
Henderson isn’t the first Virgin River star to sit in the director’s chair. Tim Matheson, who plays Doc in the show, has directed four total episodes: two episodes of season 1 (episodes 9 and 10) and two episodes of season 2 (episodes 7 and 8). We’ll have to wait and see if any other cast members sit down in the director’s chair for any episodes in the future.
