Virgin River’s Alexandra Breckenridge has revealed she has contracted Covid for the fourth time.
The Netflix star was clearly distressed as she shared the news on her Instagram Stories, revealing another side effect she hadn’t experienced previously.
Her latest health woes are thankfully unlikely to impact filming for Virgin River season six as it reported up in June this year.
Alexandra also expressed concern she may not recover from one of the hardest effects after researching the effects of the virus.
“It’s finally happened to me,” she said with a sore throat in her latest social media update.
“This is the fourth time I’ve had Covid in as many years as it’s been around.”
The Virgin River lead revealed she didn’t contract the virus during the first year of the pandemic, admitting it was “crazy” that she was able to return to work in August 2020.
“However, this is my fourth time having it,” she added, rolling her eyes and shaking her head in frustration.
“It’s not so bad. I mean, I had a rough night. I had very intense sinus pressure and pain.
“So, I’m on some strong painkiller right now because it was so horrific.”
She went on to reveal the most devastating aspect of her latest bout with the virus: “I’ve just realized that I’ve lost my sense of smell.
“That has never happened before and I’m really bummed about it. I hope it comes back.
“Apparently some people it doesn’t. And I love to smell, I love cooking and smelling my food. So, I’m just really sad.”
A study in 2023 found that an estimated 60 percent of Americans who contracted Covid in 2021 lost their sense of smell and around a quarter of that figure never fully recovered it.
New episodes of Virgin River are expected to drop at some point in 2025 as post-production gets launched following its February-June filming schedule.
