One month after season 3 of the Netflix hit concluded, ‘Bridgerton’ already has a new romance set for its upcoming fourth season
Bridgerton has found its new lead for its upcoming fourth season!
On Tuesday, July 23, Netflix announced that star Luke Thompson’s character, Benedict Bridgerton, will be the next Bridgerton family member to journey through love. The news was unveiled in an Instagram video, featuring some of Benedict’s onscreen moments throughout the series.
“welcome to the marriage mart mr. bridgerton,” the video’s caption read. “benedict’s story is coming next season.”
Toward the visual’s end, Thompson appears as himself onscreen and is given a suit. Though confused at first, he’s informed that he is being fitted for “the masquerade ball.”
In realizing the task at hand, Thompson says: “In that case, come on in!”
Season 1 of the streaming hit, which premiered in 2020, saw Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page)’s unexpected yet passion-filled journey to love. As the show’s sophomore run arrived in 2022, Daphne’s brother Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) got his slow-burn love story with Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley).
More recently, fans witnessed Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) get his love story with longtime childhood friend Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan).
As talks of the upcoming fourth season began to emerge, Thompson weighed in on the possibility of his character Benedict stepping into the lead role. But he admitted during a visit on The View in June that he was unsure of what was to come for the drama series: “I don’t know.”
“I know that it’s so lovely [and] that one of the best things about a TV job is you get to really explore a character long-form like that and fill him in slowly,” he added. “So as long as I keep getting to do that.”
With the new season officially putting its focus on the bohemian second eldest Bridgerton son, a synopsis from Netflix teases: “Despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, Benedict is loath to settle down — until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver at his mother’s masquerade ball.”
