From the Queen herself actually interrupting filming, to the many celebrities and films that inspired the show, we’ve rounded up a bunch of facts that are sure to surprise you! As we dive into the second season of the third series, let’s learn a little more about Netflix’s Bridgerton!
Facts You Didn’t Know About Bridgerton:
Like many successful TV shows and films, Netflix’s Bridgerton is actually based on a series of books! The books, written by Julia Quinn, each focus on a different member of the Bridgerton family and so far follow the same order – The Duke and I (part one) and The Viscount Who Loves Me (part two).

The Queen of England interrupted Bridgerton filming

Although Queen Charlotte is a real-life monarch, she doesn’t actually appear in Julia Quinn’s original books. However, Julia appears to be sticking to her guns, saying: “Queen Charlotte is the biggest new character and she’s fantastic in every way. I kept going back and forth between ‘Oh, I wish I’d put her in the books’ and ‘I’m glad I didn’t put her in the books because I wouldn’t have made her as great as they did here’.

That’s right! The Bridgerton creator revealed that the iconic scene showing the Duke and Daphne begging Queen Charlotte was time-sensitive as it was filmed at Lancaster House in London, with the real Queen – yes, Queen Elizabeth – needing the space to host an event!

While many aspects of Bridgerton are historically accurate, such as Queen Charlotte attending social events, not all of the show is.

The show has involved cultural experts in its production, but Julia Quinn explained how important it was for the show to have a different approach, aiming to recreate London’s high society in a diverse way. “It’s important to remember that ‘Bridgerton’ is not a history lesson,” she explains. “The show is for a modern audience.”

Oh, and being a Dynevor! Acting apparently runs in the family, with Sally Dynevor being Phoebe’s real-life mother! Sally is best known for her role as Sally Webster in the hit TV series Coronation Street – and she’s even joining Dancing On Ice in the 2022 series!

Before becoming a household name as Daphne Bridgerton, Phoebe Dynevor appeared as Lotti Mott in the 2017 TV series Snatch – a series adapted from the film of the same name.

Phoebe has starred alongside other big names including Harry Potter’s Rupert Grint, Emily in Paris’ Lucien Laviscount and Skins’ Luke Pasqualino.

Legendary Julie Andrews voices the iconic Lady Whistledown in Bridgerton. The iconic British actress narrates the story of the mysterious gossip writer throughout the series, her voice heard in both seasons one and two.
