Is Daphne in Bridgerton season 3? Or is she in?
Here’s what Phoebe Dynevor has said about her status on the show.
Is Daphne in Bridgerton season 3? It’s the question we’ve all been asking ourselves as we prepare for the show’s latest Netflix debut. Well, that and: How soon will Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin (Luke Newton) hook up?!?
The status of Phoebe Dynevor, who plays the eldest Bridgerton sister, has been uncertain since her on-screen husband Regé-Jean Page (Simon Basset) announced he wouldn’t be returning for season 2. The show has continued without him, explaining his absence with innocuous lines that have him return home instead of having to deal with Ton. (“Just because you don’t see him doesn’t mean he’s not there,” former executive producer Chris Van Dusen told me at the time.)
Daphne has popped up a few times in supporting roles—first, to help Eloise make her debut into society, and later, to listen to her brother Anthony (Jonathan Bailey). But it’s hard not to imagine what might have happened if Page had stayed on.
“I really like that the show has a happy ending, but life doesn’t have a happy ending,” Dynevor said shortly after season 1, when I asked what the character would do next. “I want to see what other hurdles they have to overcome… I’d love to see her become a mother.” So would we!
Which brings us back to the question: Is Phoebe Dynevor in season 3 of Bridgerton?
Sadly, no. The actress told Variety that she’s out of the show… for now. “I’ve done my two seasons,” Dynevor said when asked if Daphne would be in Bridgerton season 3. “I did what I wanted to do with that character, and she had a great arc.”
There is some good news, though: Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley from season 2 will be returning as Anthony and Kate Bridgerton. They’ll be back for a few episodes to show how they’re settling into life as newlyweds and dealing with all the responsibilities that come with being a viscount and viscountess. However, the season’s focus is primarily on Coughlan and Newton. As it should be.
And while you won’t see Daphne or the duke on screen in Bridgerton season 3, that doesn’t mean their characters aren’t still active in the show’s larger universe. As Van Dusen puts it: Just because you don’t see them, doesn’t mean they’re not there.
And at least Dynevor left the door open: “If they ask me back in the future, who knows?”
