GORDON RAMSAY VISITS BAJA CALIFORNIA
Chefs Gordon Ramsay, Gino D’Acampo and chef Fred Sirieix kick off the second season of their reality TV show by visiting restaurants in Baja California.
TIJUANA, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO.- Monday, April 15, 2020.- Baja California is the home base for the start of the second season of the reality TV show “Gordon, Gino and Fred: Road Trip”, produced and broadcast by British TV channel ITV, as announced by Head of Sustainable Economy and Tourism (SEST) Lic. Mario Escobedo Carignan.
The program was hosted by renowned international chefs Gordon Ramsay, Gino D’Acampo and chef Fred Sirieix, who visited the state in September 2019 and dined at local restaurants while taking in other entertainment, such as the Baja 400 race and a wrestling match. “It is extremely important for Baja California that international chefs come and witness the culinary and tourism riches we have and showcase them on the global market,” said Ivette Casillas Rivera, Undersecretary of Tourism.
Gordon, Gino and Fred started their journey in Tijuana on the “Betty La Bestia” bus, visiting Avenida Revolución and two iconic locations on that street, including Plaza Santa Cecilia, where they drank mezcal, and Caesar’s Restaurant, where they witnessed the making of a traditional caesar salad, which they invited Chef Gordon to recreate using ingredients from the location. The tour continued at Hidalgo Market, where they were able to sample traditional Mexican dishes such as chicharron and mole, ending with a challenge to taste chili peppers such as chiltepin and habanero.
On the way to Ensenada, the chefs visited Miguel Angel Guerrero, whom they recognized as a pioneer of Baja Med cuisine. The chef invited them to go fishing and then they prepared ceviche so they could experience the whole experience in his “Expedition Baja Med” project. Upon arrival in Ensenada, they headed to Valle de Guadalupe to visit two establishments: La Cocina de Doña Esthela and Adobe Guadalupe. The chefs were welcomed by Esthela Martínez, the chef, who told them about the logistics of her kitchen, including preparing all the dishes herself, which she had been working on since 2:00 a.m. Gordon, Gino and Fred sampled what European magazine Food Hub called “The World’s Best Breakfast”: machaca with eggs. Chefs Gordon and Gino prepared a meal to honor the restaurant staff and Tru Miller, of Adobe Guadalupe, whom Fred visited and tasted the nebbiolo and cabernet sauvignon wines from the place.
Local production is headed by Omar Veytia, who in addition to preparing the culinary tour also includes entertainment for the chefs in several locations around the state, such as a Baja 400 off-road race between Gordon, Gino and Fred, and a wrestling match in Tijuana where the chefs get to show off their prowess against professional wrestlers. “Gordon, Gino and Fred: Road Trip” will continue its journey in the United States, visiting Las Vegas, San Francisco and Los Angeles, among other cities. The first episode aired in the UK in April and can be watched on their official website, ITV
