Bridgerton Season 4: Actress Yerin Ha to Play Sophie Beckett, Love Interest of Benedict

Bridgerton season four has cast Yerin Ha as Sophie Beckett, the love interest of Luke Thompson’s Benedict Bridgerton. The Netflix series is based on the book An Offer From a Gentleman.

Readers, prepare to see a new face in high society.

Actress Yerin Ha, 29, is joining season four of Bridgerton as Sophie Beckett, the love interest of Luke Thompson’s Benedict Bridgerton, according to multiple reports.

While season three saw Benedict exploring his sex life with Lady Tilley Arnold (Hannah New) and her friend Paul Suarez (Lucas Aurelio), it seems he now has his eyes set on a new diamond.

Bridgerton Season 3 still, book to screen, Colin Bridgerton, Luke Newton

“The fourth season of Bridgerton focuses on free-spirited second son Benedict,” reads the synopsis for the series, according to Variety. “Although both his brother and sister are happily married, Benedict is reluctant to settle down—until he meets a charming Lady in Silver at his mother’s masquerade ball.”

Season four will be based on Julia Quinn’s An Offer From a Gentleman—the third Bridgerton book—which follows Benedict as he meets the mysterious Lady in Silver, only to see her again two years later, unaware that she is the woman he has spent years pining after.

As for Yerin’s Sophie, while it’s not yet known how her character will develop in the show, in the books she is the illegitimate daughter of an earl who is faced with becoming a maid to his wife and stepdaughter after his death.

While Yerin—who previously starred in Halo and may appear in the upcoming Dune: Prophecy—has yet to publicly address her new role, fans were quick to take to the Instagram comments on her August 14 post to congratulate her.

Bridgerton Season 3 still, book to screen, Penelope Featherington, Nicola Coughlan

“WELCOME HOME SOPHIE BECKETT!!!!” one fan wrote. Another added, “Oh my gosh, our Sophie is here. So excited and thrilled. Can’t wait to see Luke and you on screen together!”

And as one user put it, “SOPHIEEE BECKETT LOVE OF MY LIFE.”

News of Bridgerton’s fourth season has been slowly trickling in, with the show confirming Benedict will be the latest sibling to find love in an Instagram post on July 23.

“This author has been informed that it may be time to unmask the marriage fair’s latest suitor,” the show posted, alongside a video documenting Benedict’s journey. “The story of Benedict Bridgerton will be released next season.”

The video then cuts to Luke learning that he’s being fitted for a suit by the production team, and he replies, “I’ve got a suit for tonight.” The cameraman assures him, “Oh no, not for tonight. For the masquerade.”

Netflix has yet to share a premiere date for Bridgerton’s fourth season, but until then, take a moment to check out all the ways season three differs from the books.

Where We Find Penelope Featherington

In the Netflix version, Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) becomes our heroine, deciding that at 19, it’s time to completely change herself in order to escape her introverted lifestyle and find a husband. To that end, she ditches the yellow and orange suits she wore for much of seasons one and two, opting instead for more flattering dresses and colors—often wearing Bridgerton’s signature blue. Pen also gets help from Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), whom she’s had a crush on for years, on how to improve her flirting skills.

The situation is very different for the book Penelope, who is 28 in Romancing Mister Bridgerton, as the story is set in 1824, 10 years after Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) marries Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley). Penelope in the book is considered an old maid, and her fashion change stems more from her mother finally leaving her alone after she didn’t marry. While the book Pen is also stressed about living with her mother for the rest of her life, that doesn’t push her to find a husband.

Another big difference? No one—not even the reader!—knows that she’s Whistledown’s Gossip Lady at the beginning of the book, a secret that isn’t revealed until about midway through the fourth book; Netflix viewers, meanwhile, got to see that bombshell in season one.
