‘Yellowstone’ Set to Start Filming Final Episodes in Spring, ‘Mayor of Kingstown’ Prepares
The final season of Yellowstone will begin filming in late spring 2024. That’s a reasonable start date for production targets, as Taylor Sheridan’s hit series shoots mostly outdoors in Montana and will have to wait until the winter is over.
Paramount Network recently set a November 2024 premiere date for the second half of Season 5 to return in the spring. There’s no target start date for 2024 yet, with the contemporary Yellowstone spinoff set to premiere after the original series concludes. While anything is possible, there are currently no plans for Yellowstone star Kevin Costner to return for the series’ final chapter, we’re told. Deadline exclusively reported that his departure was due to a dispute over his involvement in Season 5.
The Yellowstone series and Taylor Sheridan’s entire cast are produced by MTV Entertainment Studios.
Of all of Sheridan’s shows, Mayor of Kingstown, starring Jeremy Renner, is slated to go into production first in early 2024. Half of the script for Season 2 was written before the strike, and the writers’ room returned to finish the rest after the WGA strike ended.
Yellowstone follows the Dutton family, who control the largest cattle ranch in the United States. Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds, and hard-won respect—the ranch is constantly at odds with those who live around it—an expanding town, a Native American reservation, and fierce business rivalries.
The series, which is currently airing on CBS with a steady viewership, was co-created by Taylor Sheridan & John Linson. Executive producers include John Linson, Art Linson, Taylor Sheridan, Kevin Costner, David C. Glasser, Bob Yari, Stephen Kay and Christina Voros.
