Chef Gordon Ramsay Says He’s ‘Lucky to Be Standing Here’ After Bike Accident

Posting on his personal Instagram page on Saturday, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay revealed that he was recently in a bike accident and that his helmet saved him from more serious injuries.

Ramsay said the accident happened last week in Connecticut and he suffered no broken bones or serious injuries. However, he suffered bruising to the middle of his body, leaving him looking like a “purple potato”.

“I had a really serious accident and it really shook me up,” he said. “Those amazing trauma surgeons, doctors, nurses are amazing, but obviously you have to wear a helmet.”

Ramsay added, “I don’t care that these helmets are expensive, they’re important. Even if kids are just going for a short ride, they have to wear a helmet.”

Ramsay said he was treated by staff at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, Connecticut.

“I’m lucky to be standing here,” Ramsay said. “I’m trying to get through it.”

Ramsay is currently the host of several Fox television shows, including Hell’s Kitchen, MasterChef, Next Level Chef and Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars.

Ramsay said on the Joe Wicks Podcast in 2020 that cycling is a key way he improves his mental and physical health.

“For me, it’s a great outlet,” Ramsay said. “There’s something quite therapeutic about just being out in nature in the countryside.”
