‘Bridgerton’ Showrunner Says Season 4 Will Be ‘Some of My Best Work’ as She Confirms Two-Year Wait
Jess Brownell spoke to THR at the UK premiere of season three, part two, about the next ‘Bridgerton’ couple to headline the Netflix hit and what time frame fans can expect.
This is the final appearance of Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington as the main couple of Bridgerton this week. Season three, part two, of the Netflix hit drops Thursday after fans patiently wait for the final four episodes.
But there’s already talk of which Bridgerton couple will be next to get their own season. Will it be Luke Thompson’s Benedict, who’s already a fan favorite, or Claudia Jessie’s Eloise, who’s ripe for the spotlight? Dear readers, we’re in for a long wait again. Showrunner Jess Brownell gave The Hollywood Reporter all the information she could about season four at the UK season two premiere on Wednesday night.
“I’ve been close to making mistakes a couple of times, so keep asking, and I probably will make mistakes,” Brownell said when asked who will lead the next season. “I’m really excited about what we’re writing. We’re coming to the end of the writers’ season, with the scripts. And I feel like it’s some of my best work and the writers’ room’s best work. We’ve just really come together, and we’re firing on all cylinders, so I can’t wait for the fans to see what we have.”
“We’re working hard to try to get the seasons out faster, but it takes eight months to shoot and then you have to edit and then you have to dub into every language,” she continued. “And it takes a long time to write, so we’re on a two-year timeline, we’re trying to speed things up, but somewhere in that range.”

There were plenty of comments from Bridgerton’s diehard fans on social media. Are they happy with the direction season four is taking? “I think it’s hard to say. There are so many different ships,” Brownell said. “I think one of the ships is going to be very, very satisfying.”
Brownell paid tribute to the performances of Bridgerton’s power couples past and present. “I’m very proud of how this season has turned out and I’m very grateful to the fans who have tuned in. Every season the momentum has grown and we have to give back to the actors in season one and season two for helping build the enthusiasm. Then I think Nicola and Luke helped build a lot of the enthusiasm.”
