You may or may not have seen Netflix’s slightly altered period drama “Bridgerton”, set in 1813 among London’s aristocratic upper class. Every year, London’s elite gather to marry off eligible women from the studio to handsome young bachelors. The story focuses on Daphne Bridgerton, a teenage girl who is on a quest to find a suitable husband during her first social season in London.
This show takes a unique, more modern, and slightly hotter approach to your traditional period drama. With smoking, drinking and sex being common features in everyday life, and a stunning visual style – a vibrant colour palette, extravagant and bold outfits, and eye-catching accents to complete the characters’ looks.
As you might imagine, ties play a prominent role in menswear, especially the day tie (the ascot tie), which is boldly and charismatically worn by one of the main characters, the Duke of Hastings, played by Regé-Jean Page. He has been making waves since the show began, with a fiery sex appeal that simply oozes from him.
