As Being Gordon Ramsay prepares to provide an insight into the life of one of Britain’s most famous chefs, Tatler reveals the dynasty behind the first culinary family
From social media stars to would-be Olympians, Tatler reveals everything you need to know about the Ramsay family
With his fiery temper and language greener than a raw steak, Gordon Ramsay sits at the pinnacle of British fine dining. His signature restaurant has won three Michelin stars and is widely regarded as one of the finest restaurants to ever grace the streets of London. With his gripping behind-the-scenes TV shows like Hell’s Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares, Ramsay has amassed a media empire and a reputation for ruthless perfectionism.
But outside the high-pressure world of fine dining, he’s starting to reveal himself as a family man. ‘The kids have touched me the most,’ the chef told People magazine, describing himself as the ‘soft-hearted one’ of the family compared to wife Tana. Since becoming parents in 1998, the couple have welcomed six children – who are now starting to take on the family responsibilities themselves. And with the announcement of Netflix’s new documentary Being Gordon Ramsay, let Tatler take you through the rising stars of the first culinary family.
Eldest daughter Megan Ramsay, 26, became the first in her clan to graduate from university when she left Oxford Brookes with her degree – but growing up with one of the world’s most famous chefs as your dad isn’t always easy. Gordon Ramsay recalls the moment he first introduced himself to Megan’s boyfriend: a particularly terrifying Facetime call filled with unprintable words. When he called to interrupt the couple’s date night, Ramsay immediately greeted Megan’s “shaken” boyfriend, Byron, in a very characteristic way. “It’s me,” he recalled saying, “not your future father-in-law, you f**k!” Megan, it was said, promptly hung up. And while meeting the parents can be the most tense family dinner in London, Ramsay explained that his bold approach to any potential son-in-law comes from a deep paternal concern and paternal sense of fun. “I just want my daughters to be taken care of and for them to take care of each other,” he said. “You’re always worried about that.”
Ramsay’s second daughter, Holly, is dating someone who may be more attuned to Gordon’s competitive spirit. The 24-year-old has been dating Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty since June 2023, after they met when the triple gold medallist took part in Strictly Come Dancing with Holly’s sister Tilly (more on that later). The pair were one of the standout couples at the Paris Olympics this summer, sharing heartfelt messages of support as Peaty competed in the pool. After narrowly missing out on a historic gold medal in the 100m breaststroke, the swimmer told fans that Holly was “the best partner anyone could have” during Peaty’s challenging fortnight.
“It’s not easy to navigate the challenges of living with a professional athlete with the emotional and physical trauma that we’ve endured. He’s been my biggest supporter but also my best tree pruner, always letting me know and helping me get better. I’m looking forward to the exciting future we have together.”
And indeed, it seems Holly and Adam are indeed thinking long-term, perhaps even planning to expand the Ramsay clan. Telling The Times that Holly played a key role in helping him reach “this moment in my life where I can have peace and can have love without anything else other than the bond that we have,” Peaty went on to say, “I definitely want to have more children.”
And what about his relationship with Holly’s hot-tempered father? ‘He just inspires me to succeed,’ Peaty told the outlet. ‘Her family values are very similar to mine, and the way Holly was brought up is something I saw in her and that really appealed to me.’ Indeed, Gordon and Adam seem to get along well, having filmed content together ahead of the Paris Olympics.
