Everything You Need to Know About Tracker Season 2

Everything You Need to Know About Tracker Season 2

As CBS is happy to announce to the world, Tracker is the flagship show of the 2023-2024 season that doesn’t involve any football being thrown around (airing after the Super Bowl—the biggest football show—doesn’t hurt). The procedural has a tough act to follow in Season 2, but CBS is confident that Tracker will continue its streak of success. Not only is Tracker returning earlier than last year, but it’s also getting more episodes this time around.

Starring This Is Us’ Justin Hartley, Tracker follows Colter Shaw, a man who makes a living solving cases that often involve missing persons, using his innate ability to track people down to work with law enforcement and regular people in exchange for reward money. The producers call it “an old-school show, but an old-school show elevated,” and it certainly falls into that category, with cases of the week wrapping up at the end of the episode and a hero at the center, but one that’s certainly more complex than we’ve ever seen.

We’re rounding up everything we know about Tracker Season 2, including when it’ll be released, how many episodes it has, who’ll be starring, and more.

Latest Tracker Season 2 News
Tracker will be without one of its managers when Season 2 premieres. On August 9, TVLine reported that Robin Weigert, who played Teddi, will not be returning for Season 2. No reason was given for her departure.

Tracker Season 2 Release Date
Tracker will return for Season 2 on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at 8/7c. A late fall premiere is unusual for CBS, but it seems like the network is using its NFL broadcasts to drive awareness; CBS is using much of October to debut its big scripted series, so expect NFL games airing on CBS to be packed with commercials. Starting October 20, Tracker will be followed on Sunday nights by a new season of The Equalizer.

Last season, Tracker aired on Sundays at 9/8c. Season 1 premiered after the 2024 Super Bowl and became the most-watched scripted show on its way to becoming the season’s No. 1 new show.

How many episodes will Tracker have in season 2?
After just 13 episodes in Season 1—Tracker is a midseason show—a true fall premiere means we’ll be getting more Tracker in Season 2. At the Television Critics Association press tour in July, executive producer Ken Olin confirmed that Season 2 will have 22 episodes.

Is Tracker based on a book?
The TV series is based on The Never Game, the first book in the series by Jeffery Deaver. (The TV series was originally titled The Never Game.) The Never Game was published in 2019 and is the first in a four-book series focusing on Colter Shaw. The other three books are The Goodbye Man (2020), The Final Twist (2021), and Hunting Time (2022).
