BREAKING NEWS – Tracker Season 2’s Trailer Totally Ignores The Central Story Of Justin Hartley’s Record-Breaking Drama

Tracker season 2 is on the way, and to build hype for the upcoming episodes, CBS released a trailer that teases one significant aspect of the series but unfortunately ignores the best part of the story. The CBS action drama, created by Ben H. Winters, is based on Jeffery Deaver’s The Never Game and follows Justin Hartley’s Colter Shaw. Colter is a survivalist and a contract tracker (as the show’s title suggests) who travels around the country and finds people for a living. While Colter’s job is one of Tracker’s cornerstones, it isn’t its biggest draw, as showcased in season 1.

Following its series premiere after Super Bowl LVIII on February 11, 2024, Tracker season 1 went on to become CBS’s highest-rated scripted series of the 2023–2024 season.

As the central character of Tracker, Colter’s story (including his mysterious past) is important and complex. Over the course of the series’ first set of episodes, the audience slowly but surely learns more about Colter and how his past shaped him into the man he is today. Unfortunately, not even Colter knows the full details of his history, including his father’s strange death when Colter was a child. Since Hartley’s character failed to learn the truth by the Tracker season 1 finale, the mystery will carry over into season 2, but one wouldn’t think so based on its first trailer.

Tracker Season 2 Trailer Focuses On Colter’s Rewardist Job

Season 2’s Teaser Video Downplays Tracker Season 1’s Big MysteryJustin Hartley as Colter Shaw on the beach in Tracker

The Tracker season 2 trailer, which the show dropped on its Instagram page in late August 2024, is brief but teases a first glance at the upcoming episodes. The footage shows Justin Hartley’s Colter Shaw in action as he jumps back into his work as a rewardist, traveling the country and tracking people down. Unfortunately, Tracker season 2’s first teaser trailer doesn’t reveal much about the upcoming episodes’ stories or Colter’s cases. Nevertheless, the video is still building hype as fans start counting down the days until the October 13, 2024, premiere on CBS.

One couldn’t help but notice that something was missing from the trailer, though — it’s ignoring Tracker season 2’s biggest story. The mystery surrounding Colter’s father’s death will undoubtedly play a major role in the upcoming episodes as Hartley’s character continues trying to figure out what happened that night many years ago. If Russell didn’t kill their father as Colter previously thought, then the suspect pool is wide open. It’s only a matter of time before the truth is revealed, and, hopefully, that moment will come in season 2.

Why Tracker Season 2 Trailer Hides Its Biggest Story

Jensen Ackles’ Return Guarantees Season 2 Will Circle Back To Ashton’s Death

Jensen Ackles and Justin Hartley in Tracker season 1, episode 12

As mentioned above, the Tracker season 2 trailer is quite short. There is only so much that the editors could fit into the video, and they decided to focus on Colter’s job instead of the action drama’s most significant story (and showing a glimpse at Jensen Ackles’ Tracker return). Perhaps the trailer is hiding teases surrounding the mystery of Ashton Shaw’s death because they would give too much away about the upcoming season. Whatever the case, fans can rest easy knowing that Tracker season 2 will continue exploring what happened to Colter and Russell’s father.
