Networks have been making huge moves this year. While some shows, like Tracker, are continuing, they have been eliminating several popular franchise shows to make way for possible future franchises. With Blue Bloods, CSI: Vegas, and NCIS: Hawai’i ending, the networks are expanding the Fire Country franchise and hoping fans will stick with them.
Now, many fans wonder if Tracker might get a franchise spinoff as well.
Could Tracker Get A Spinoff Series?
CBS loves to create franchises out of its shows. CBS has had many popular franchises that have brought in millions of viewers. As a result, many fans of the hit series Tracker are wondering if CBS will want to expand on that series as well.
However, one person is not interested in spinoffs or franchise shows. That is the man who is making Tracker. Showrunner Elwood Reid said he didn’t think there needed to be a spinoff or a Tracker franchise outside of the main series.
“I’ve seen this with shows, where they spin them off too early, then both shows suffer,” he said (via TVLine). “The show is so singular with Justin [at its center] that it’s really important we keep expanding the world, expanding the cases and [expanding] what Tracker can do.”
That is not to say there are not lots of chances for spinoffs from Tracker. In Season 1, the show introduced Justin Hartley’s real-life wife, Sofia Pernas, as a fellow reward-seeking tracker named Billie Matalon. Later in the season, Jenson Ackles appeared as Colter’s brother Russell, an Army vet working for a shadowy organization called The Horizon Group.
Either of these could make a great Tracker spinoff series. However, as Reid said, this show isn’t stuck in one location or city, and he can take Coltor anywhere, so there is really no need for a spinoff to show other parts of the world.
Tracker Season 2: What To Expect
Tracker received an early renewal for Season 2, so the showrunners knew they could keep laying out breadcrumbs to build the world. The show’s future seems bright, with Justin Hartley proving to be a star who can carry his own series.
However, there will be a few changes in Season 2. Robin Weigert exited the series as Teddi, one of Colter’s handlers. This was a surprising exit, and Hartley said the show would deal with that loss in the first two episodes. However, in some better news, he also said that Jenson Ackles and Melissa Roxburgh would return in small roles in Season 2 as his character’s brother and sister.
Tracker Season 2 premieres on Sunday, October 13, at 8/7c on CBS.
Do you think Tracker could end up with a spinoff series to kickstart a franchise? Do you think it is better off with just the one series since Justin Hartley is the main selling point? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
