Peacock’s The Office Sequel Series Gets 3 New Cast Members

More cast members have been revealed for Peacock’s new series set in the same world as The Office. Reportedly titled The Paper, the series will follow the struggling reporters of a declining newspaper, and five of its cast members are now known.

Per TVLine, the new series has added three new cast members: Melvin Gregg (SnowfallNine Perfect Strangers), Chelsea Frei (The MoodysThe Cleaning Lady), and Ramona Young (Legends of TomorrowNever Have I Ever). Previously, it was announced that Domhnall Gleeson and and Sabrina Impacciatore would be among the starring cast members for the series.

In a statement, NBCU Entertainment’s president of scripted content, Lisa Katz, said, “It’s been more than 10 years since the final episode of The Office aired on NBC, and the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and build new generations of fans on Peacock. In partnership with Universal Television and led by the creative team of Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, this new series set in the universe of Dunder Mifflin introduces a new cast of characters in a fresh setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper.”

The World of The Office Gets Expanded With a New Workplace

Greg Daniels and Michael Koman created the new series. They will also executive produce alongside Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, the creators of the original UK version of the show that the American version is based on. Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas will also executive produce.

It’s confirmed that the new series will be sharing its universe with The Office, but there’s no indication at this time about original cast members popping up. Given the link, it seems possible that cameo appearances could happen, though Michael Scott actor Steve Carell has been among the stars who’ve seemingly shut down that possibility. Other have seemed more open to the idea of making a return for a cameo, such as Dwight Schrute actor Rainn Wilson.

“Yeah, I don’t see how Dwight goes from Scranton to wherever they’re shooting it in the Midwest,” Wilson told CinemaBlend, hinting that he’d return as Dwight if he’s invited, though he’s not sure how that will work. “If Greg [Daniels] wants me to do something, I’m happy to do something. But, I am sad that they’re leaving Scranton. I understand that, why they’re leaving Scranton, but I kind of feel like there should be like seven different office spinoffs kind of like Law & Order. Like there’s Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and there should be all of these workplace documentaries going on, but they should all be in the Scranton Wilkes Bar, Lackawanna County, greater Metropolitan area.”
