Real Housewives Of Atlanta: 10 Reasons Why Season 6 Was The Best

With the first part of season 14 recently being aired, viewers of The Real Housewives of Atlanta get to do deep dive into everything the women had gone through in the past year. And while the first part brought on some heavy topics, like Marlo’s past and the fallout between Sonya and Drew.

Thus far, season 14 has been well-received, but there are other seasons of RHOA that had more excitement, tea, and storylines that felt authentic and from the heart. One of those seasons was season 6. With Phaedra Parks, Cynthia Bailey, NeNe Leakes, Porsha Williams, Kandi Burruss, and Kenya Moore at the center of the action, this was Bravo’s dream team. There were highs, lows, good times, and bad times — all of which made it the perfect season.

Todd And Mama Joyce Went Head-To-Head

What made season 6 one of the best seasons of The Real Housewives of Atlanta was the dynamic between Kandi’s fiance and mom, Todd Burruss and Mama Joyce. Mama Joyce was protective of Kandi and while she liked Todd at first, things changed when they grew more serious.

Mama Joyce did everything she could to break Kandi and Todd up, including creating a fake rumor about him and Kandi’s best friend Carmon. Todd was frustrated with his soon-to-be mother-in-law, but no one was more in the middle than Kandi. Watching this dynamic was a stressful one.

The Ups And Downs Of Porsha’s Divorce

Porsha joined RHOA in season 5 and was a completely different person compared to season 6. In season 5, she was married to Kordell Stewart and perfected the role of being a loving, stay-at-home wife. By season 6, she was going through a divorce, finding her independence, and letting loose.

Fans saw a new side to Porsha that they never saw before. At the same time, viewers also saw the ups and downs of divorce and how much Porsha loved Kordell but needed to move on to grow as a woman. It wasn’t one of the worst divorces in Real Housewives history but it was emotional to watch.

Phaedra Had A Busy Season

Phaedra Parks may have been the best cast member in this RHOA season because of the multiple hats she wore. She proved that women can do it all while she balanced two kids (which included a newborn), ran her law firm, studied for her mortician’s license, and took care of her marital woes.

Seeing Phaedra do it was tiring, but she was transparent about her goals. All the while, Phaedra still brought those hilarious one-liners and shady views in her confessionals. On top of everything Phaedra had to do, she also dealt with Apollo begging her for more attention.

‘Peaches Divided’ Had Everyone Talking

Cast members have a heated altercation in Real Housewives of Atlanta

NeNe and Kenya both looked like villains in the widely talked about episodes ‘Pillow Talk Or Pillow Fight’ and ‘Peaches Divided.’ In these episodes, NeNe put together a pajama party intended for the couples in their group. The intent behind the PJ part was to get to know each other better through intimate and entertaining questions.

In a shocking twist, the only thing that transpired at this party was a blowout between NeNe and Kenya, which resulted in a physical altercation between most of the men. It was a scary instance that got security involved while the women screamed in horror. It was the first time a fight of that magnitude was shown on RHOA and it changed the dynamic between Kenya, NeNe, and the group.

The Kenya and Apollo Saga

In Kenya’s first season (season 4), she admitted to the cameras that she found Apollo Nida (Phaedra’s husband) attractive. Things got worse when it looked like Apollo and Kenya flirted with each other in group settings.

In season 6, their flirtation only got worse when Phaedra found out that Apollo and Kenya were texting each other regularly. Apollo even admitted that the two met up in Los Angeles but nothing happened between the pair. A Housewife potentially hooking up with another Housewife’s husband was a first in Real Housewives history, and it made the season all the juicier.

Did NeNe & Phaedra Know Each Other In Athens Or Not?

In season 6, Mynique Smith was friends with the group and went to a few events with her husband, Chuck Smith. As it turned out, Chuck was better friends with the group than Mynique was — mainly because he grew up in the same area as NeNe, Kandi, and Phaedra.

What was funny about Chuck’s addition was that he contradicted a few of NeNe’s stories. NeNe said she didn’t know Phaedra when they grew up in Athens. However, Chuck and Phaedra said they all went to the same school. Eventually, NeNe came clean and said she did know Phaedra in high school — but this wasn’t until she grew a liking to her, thanks to the widely forgotten about Mynique and Chuck Smith. Not knowing Phaedra (when she did) was a weird lie on TV, but in the end, NeNe and Phaedra became close.

The Eye-Opening Trip To Savannah

The women did quite a bit of traveling in season 6, including a mini-getaway to Savannah, Georgia for some much-needed education on America’s Black history. With Porsha Williams being Hosea Williams’s (a groundbreaking civil rights leader who worked with Martin Luther King Jr.) granddaughter, viewers were intrigued by the trip.

And while the trip was eye-opening for the cast and viewers, the most shocking part of the trip was when Porsha learned more about the Underground Railroad. Despite her family being historically known, Porsha thought the Underground Railroad was a real railroad driven by a conductor for Slaves… Porsha was a likable Housewife but this moment was jaw-dropping and hilarious to watch.

All About ‘A Mother’s Love’

In season 6, Kandi and Todd teamed up for a new project: a play called A Mother’s Love. Written by Kandi, the play was inspired by Kandi’s own relationship with her mother. This caused some friction between her and Mama Joyce because Mama Joyce rarely saw things through the same lens as Kandi.

Aside from watching the play come together, the more entertaining part was watching Porsha try out for a role. To make things more dramatic, when Kandi gave her the role, she rarely showed up to rehearsal and crafted wild demands in her contract.

A Dramatic Trip To Mexico

With some tension in the air, the women of Atlanta traveled to Mexico with their partners. What should have been a relaxing vacation got ugly.

Peter was far too interested in Porsha’s marriage and gave unwarranted views, Kenya and Apollo continued to get close while Phaedra watched, and a fallout between Peter and Greg Leakes came about at random. Quotes that defined a cast member’s personality were said in the heat of the moment, but this vacation was more upsetting than entertaining.

The Reunion Only Added Fuel To The Fire Between Kenya And Porsha

Things between Kenya and Porsha did not get better in season 6. In fact, they only got worse. Kenya got involved in Porsha’s divorce proceedings, and Porsha threw jabs about Kenya’s personal life.

This all carried on at the season 6 reunion, which brought one of the wildest conflicts in RHOA history. With a megaphone and scepter in hand, Kenya pushed Porsha too far and instigated a response from her. Sadly, the response was violent, and a brawl broke out between the women. Host Andy Cohen had no choice but to send Porsha home, resulting in one of the craziest moments in Real Housewives history.
