There are a lot of things you can call Angela Bassett: mother, actress, entrepreneur. Well, now there’s one more title to call her, and that’s an Emmy winner!
The 9-1-1 actress has received nine Emmy nominations over the course of her career, and she got to take one home for a project close to her heart. On September 7, Angela received the award for Best Narrator at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles. The prize was for Angela lending her voice to the National Geographic docuseries Queens, a seven-episode limited series following the concept of matriarchies and female leaders seen throughout all forms of nature.
After being stunned by the huge career milestone, Angela emotionally went on Instagram to post the moment of her holding the coveted trophy. What’s more, she used the caption to share her feelings about finally receiving an Emmy award.
“My very first #Emmy. It feels really good to hold this in my hands,” she emotionally wrote the next day on September 8. “Thank you to the @televisionacad for recognizing me and the extraordinary story that the #Queens docu-series tells. So much of my life is spent on camera telling stories, that when I have the opportunity to step back and allow these majestic, powerful creatures to be the center of our attention, I am honored to be their voice.”
Naturally, Angela’s fans couldn’t hold back their elation when seeing her big achievement. They quickly bombarded her in the Instagram comments to share their congratulations.
“Loooooong overdue and very well deserved!!!!” one person wrote. “Congratulations! … but you have always been beyond worthy of that award! ❤️❤️❤️❤️,” another declared. “You are exceptional. We love it. 💚💚💚 👑👑👑 Queen,” a different follower added.
Well, this is definitely a great way to start the fall season! And let’s not forget that Angela will be back on TV very soon, as 9-1-1 season 8 will premiere on Thursday, September 26 at 8 p.m. ET. And just as in previous seasons, her character Athena Nash Grant will surely be ready to help rescue folks from emergencies.
Congrats, Angela!
