Thirty-five years ago, a young Dylan McDermott was just getting his career off the ground, so when he got a role in a movie starring Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Daryl Hannah, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, and Dolly Parton, he felt like it was a film that would certainly help propel him to stardom — especially since he was playing Roberts’s husband. That film, of course, was Steel Magnolias, and it was, indeed, a hit that helped advance his career. Speaking at, appropriately enough, a Steel City Con panel a few years back, McDermott took reminisced those days on the set of the film, talking about how he felt being a relative newcomer making a movie with bona fide legends.
