Jennifer Aniston has always been the “It-Girl.” be it during her time on FRIENDS, or decades after the series’ end, she has been one of the most respected and iconic actresses of all time. Being at the very center of one of the most successful and beloved shows of all time, she single-handedly dedicated several significant trends of the ’90s and ’00s.
With this, it is not surprising that the actress had jobs lined up by the time the series was over. However, no one would have expected the kind of direction Aniston almost took with her career. It would seem that she was almost cast in a major role in the police procedural, NCIS.
Jennifer Aniston—A Secret Service Agent? It is difficult to pinpoint a time when FRIENDS wasn’t at the peak of its success. However, there is no denying that its final season had the entire world tuning in, dreading an imminent end, and watching as their beloved 20-somethings turned into mature adults. As the final season of the series was wrapping up, it would seem that Jennifer Aniston was looking for what she was going to do next, and a new show that was in the early stages of production caught her eye. In an oral history of NCIS by The Hollywood Reporter, it was revealed that the actress was quite interested in joining the series. In fact, she seemed to have found herself extremely interested in playing one specific character. An executive producer for the series, Charles Floyd Johnson, confessed that Aniston has taken a look at the script, and she was very interested in playing the role of Special Agent Caitlin Todd.
Jennifer Aniston Was Just Too Busy
Charles Floyd Johnson went on to reveal that Jennifer Aniston’s name was floating around when they decided who to cast in the role of Caitlin Todd on NCIS. The casting director of the series, Susan Bluestein, then mentioned that she was available at the time, so she could have definitely been considered.
At the same time, she pointed out that she does not remember offering the role to the actress, but she does remember them talking about her.
I think Jennifer Aniston was available at the time, and her name was floated.
With this, one cannot help but wonder why she did not end up getting cast for the role. It would seem that since the final season of FRIENDS was also being filmed at the time, she did not have enough time in her schedule to be a series regular on another show. With this, the role ended up slipping from her grasp and landing in Sasha Alexander’s lap.Interestingly enough, Alexander was a part of FRIENDS at one point. The actress starred in the nineteenth episode of the eighth season, titled The One with Joey’s Interview, where she played the role of an unnamed interviewer.
