The Young and the Restless’ Star Kate Linder Has a Second Career as a Flight Attendant … Why?

It is hard to believe that any actor who has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame would choose to have a second career, especially one that’s far less glamorous than acting on TV — yet that is the case for The Young and the Restless star Kate Linder. When she isn’t working on the long-running soap opera as Esther Valentine, she is up in the air, working as a flight attendant.

She explained, “It’s really interesting because one day I get to be on the set, the next day I get to be here doing this Hollywood Christmas parade, and then I get to serve coffee at 35,000 feet. You don’t forget who you are that way. It keeps you grounded.”The 77-year-old, who has appeared in over 2,500 episodes of The Young and the Restless, did admit that sometimes she gets recognized while working as a flight attendant for United Airlines.

She said, “I was standing at the gate ready to get on a plane, and this woman looked at me and she said, ‘Kate Linder? No, you’re not.’ And I said, ‘I was when I woke up. So something’s wrong. I don’t know what’s wrong.’ She couldn’t believe that I was going to be working that flight. And she ended up being on that flight.”Linder said that initially, she didn’t talk much about her job as a flight attendant because she thought people would take her less seriously as an actress. However, as the years went on, she added, “I would meet viewers on the plane and have these wonderful stories. I thought that as long as I keep doing both jobs well, I would keep doing them.”
