Drew Quartermaine (played by Cameron Mathison) wasn’t always the most controversial character on General Hospital. In fact, when he first arrived in Port Charles, he was mistaken for Jason Morgan due to an entirely new face. The subsequent reveal that he was actually Jason’s twin, Drew Caine, portrayed by Billy Miller, was a twist that hooked fans.
Back then, Drew was a character audiences rooted for. He endured heartbreak when Sam chose Jason over him, yet he remained a loving father to his son Oscar and a loyal friend to Curtis. His kindness extended even to Franco, despite their complicated history. After being presumed dead in a plane crash, Drew’s return was triumphant. He was hailed as a hero and even took the fall for Carly’s insider trading, landing himself in prison for love.
But the Drew who emerged after prison was… different.
A Fall From Grace
The new Drew shocked fans with a series of questionable choices. He schemed to wrest control of ELQ from his cousin Ned, a move that felt out of character for the once-noble Drew. His breakup with Carly, triggered by Jason’s return, further tarnished his image—especially when it became clear that jealousy played a major role.
The most scandalous blow, however, came when Drew not only kissed but later slept with his nephew Michael’s wife, Willow. As if that wasn’t enough, he was also romantically involved with her mother, Nina, at the same time. Adding to the betrayal, Drew has been plotting to cut Curtis, his best friend, out of a promised job.
Port Charles, a town known for its morally complex characters, isn’t thrilled with Drew these days. Can he ever come back from this downward spiral?
Can Port Charles Forgive?
While Drew’s actions have alienated many, General Hospital has a history of redeeming even its most villainous residents. Liars, cheaters, and even murderers have found their way back into the town’s good graces. If characters like Franco or even Sonny Corinthos can be forgiven, why not Drew?
Perhaps there’s still hope. Drew could prove himself as a congressman, championing the community and mending his fractured relationships. Maybe his connection with Willow is more genuine than fans realize, paving the way for a complicated yet compelling love story. And let’s not forget his potential as a father and stepfather—could his redemption arc lie in family?
