The Nanny, which began streaming on HBO Max this month, has episodes of the first few seasons out of order, causing some confusion for viewers.
The episodes of The Nanny on HBO Max are not in the right order on the streaming platform. The hit comedy series was created by its star, Fran Drescher, along with Peter Marc Jacobson and premiered on CBS in 1993 running for six seasons. Drescher stars as Fran Fine, who was recently dumped and fired by her fiancé and stumbles upon a wealthy and widowed Broadway musical producer, Maxwell Sheffield, and is hired to be a nanny to his three children. The show also stars Charles Shaughnessy, Daniel Davis, Lauren Lane, Nicholle Tom, Benjamin Salisbury, and Madeline Zima.
It was announced that the entire series would be available for streaming on HBO Max beginning this month, which means that viewers will be able to revisit and enjoy the Jewish humor and the fun-loving characters of the show. The series features the relationship and sexual tension between Fran and Maxwell, the snide and savage comments of Niles the butler towards C.C. Babcock, Maxwell’s business partner, and Fran’s eccentric friends and family, as well as her exquisite fashion taste. The show being available on the streaming service leaves many viewers a chance to discover the show as well, but with the way the episodes are presented, it may lead to some confusion.
It has been discovered that a lot of episodes of The Nanny are extremely out of order when presented on HBO Max, specifically in the earlier seasons. The episodes of the show following the pilot are shuffled around a bit, with the third episode ‘My Fair Nanny’ being listed as the eighth and the ninth episode ‘Personal Business’ being listed as the fifth. That is also the case with the first half of the second season with some episodes featured onto the first season instead, and additionally the season three finale ‘A Pup In Paris’ is not featured as the last episode of that season on HBO Max. You can see the order of episodes as it currently stands in HBO Max below:
While the episodes being out of order is not entirely tumultuous since the show’s early seasons feature separate storylines that do not continue in the following episodes, it is still concerning for longtime fans who are aware of the correct order. And with certain episodes being not in their correct placement, it can lead to multiple inconsistencies about the show and certain story developments, especially when it comes to cliffhanger finales.
Of course when certain television and shows and movies get moved to a streaming platform, problems can arise, such as the quality of the content, the aspect ratio, or things being modified. But The Nanny still has its devoted fan base after over two decades of being off the air and its popularity continues to grow with the series now being adapted into a Broadway musical by Drescher and Jacobson with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend creator, Rachel Bloom. Hopefully, the problem will be resolved soon so people can watch The Nanny in the order it is supposed to be watched.
