Virgin River: Netflix has finally dropped the season 4 trailer of the emotional drama

Virgin River fans, listen up! Netflix has dropped an official trailer for the hotly anticipated fourth season – and its release is just around the corner.

If you haven’t already binged three seasons’ worth of the romantic drama (why not?!), then let us familiarize you with some backstory. Based on Robyn Carr’s best-selling novel series of the same name, down on her luck Mel Monroe (played by the brilliant This Is Us star Alexandra Breckenridge) swaps LA for a remote town in northern California to move on from the painful memories of her husband Mark’s tragic death.

Interwoven with dramatic and seedy underground storylines of other residents of the picturesque little town of Virgin River, Mel quickly finds herself in the midst of an unexpected relationship with Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson), and viewers have watched her struggle as she attempts to find clarity with her past, and move forward with her new love interest.

Most shockingly, during the season three cliffhanger, Mel tells Jack that she is pregnant but doesn’t know who the father is. Eek!

Well, it looks like the paternity mystery still hangs over Mel – with Jack making it clear that he doesn’t want to know whether he is the father or her ex-husband Mark. For those who need a little reminder, Mel previously had troubles with her fertility journey while with Mark, and the pair decided to undergo IVF. Despite Mark having passed away in a car accident, in season three, Mel made the decision to go ahead with the IVF procedure in hopes of becoming a mother.

In more twists and turns, the trailer shows the arrival of Jack’s father. Judging by the animosity between the pair, it looks like they have a lot to figure out between themselves before the arrival of Jack’s children. (Oh yeah, he is also expecting twins with his ex-girlfriend Charmaine).

But could Mel’s head be swayed by the arrival of a handsome new doctor arriving in town? Ooh, the drama!

There is also the return of cast favorites such as Hope, Doc, Brie and more, with Netflix’s official synopsis of the show reading, “Despite not knowing whether her baby belongs to her deceased husband, Mark, or Jack, Mel begins season four with a sense of optimism.

“For years, she yearned to be a mother, and her dream is one step closer to reality. While Jack is supportive and excited, the question of paternity continues to gnaw at him. Complicating matters is the arrival of a handsome new doctor, who’s in the market to start a family of his own.

“Hope is still healing from her car accident, and the lingering psychological effects of her brain injury will have profound consequences for both her and Doc. Brie, intent on proving the innocence of the man she loves, unexpectedly finds herself in a closer relationship with Mike and one step closer to Calvin’s violent criminal web. Even as Preacher forges a new romantic connection, he can’t help but hold out hope for being reunited with Christopher and Paige.”

Alexandra and Martin are set to reprise their roles. Others joining them include Tim Matheson as Doc, Colin Lawrence, Ben Hollingsworth, Grayson Maxwell Gurnsey, and Sarah Dugdale.

We’re also very excited about the return of Annette O’Toole – who plays Hope, the town’s mayor. She was noticeably absent in season three, with her character’s storyline centered on her being stuck abroad due to bad weather. Fans of the show were concerned that Annette would soon be exiting the show – but that was far from the case. Filming for season 3 actually took place in the early days of the COVID pandemic, and Annette was unable to make it to Vancouver for filming.

However, we’re unclear about the fate of Charmaine (the mother of Jack’s soon-to-arrive twins), played by Lauren Hammersley. She isn’t featured in the trailer, so it will be a waiting game to see if she’s still a part of season four. If she is, that’s guaranteed drama for us!
