Before being known as “The Mother of the Black Community,” Rashad studied theater at Howard and graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of fine arts degree. Now, she has the opportunity to share her passion for art with the school’s current and future students.

Rashad’s hiring marks the return of the College of Fine Arts as an independent school within the university. In 1998, the university merged the College of Fine Arts into the College of Arts and Sciences as a way to cut costs.
