1 Bob Saget Had To Change Soiled Diapers On Set
You would think that the budget for working with babies would at least include a designated diaper changer. Bob Saget was forced to clean up the Olsen twins more than he expected during extended periods of filming. In his memoir, Saget wrote:
Cameras were rolling and one of the young ladies had made a poop, which had to be removed or we would have been holding a child with a smashed-poo-filled diaper for a long scene. I didn’t want the poo to cause a rash and soil my television child’s butt, so I decided to take the time to remove the aforementioned substance from the diaper, so that my television baby was poo-free.
Caring for the Olsen twins continued as the three worked together on the popular show, and after Saget’s passing, Mary-Kate and Ashley remembered him as “the most loving and generous man.”
2 Dave Coulier Is The Supposed Subject Of Alanis Morissette’s ‘You Oughta Know’
Alanis Morissette’s hit song ‘You Oughta Know’ is allegedly about the nasty relationship and falling out she had with Full House star Dave Coulier. While the real story is somewhat of a mystery, Coulier himself admitted that specific lyrics jumped out at him when he first heard the song:
The one that got me was, “I hate to bug you in the middle of dinner.” That was because we had already broken up and she had called – she was living in Canada at the time – she called, and I said, “Hey, I’m right in the middle of dinner, can I just call you right back?” I remember that line when I heard ‘You Oughta Know,’ and I just went… it was like, “uh oh.”
3 Jodie Sweetin Turned To Alcohol and Drugs After The Show Ended
When Full House came to an end, Jodie Sweetin, the middle child of the sitcom family, was 13 and out of the job she’d held for most of her life. Like many child actors before her, she fell into a downward spiral that began after she started drinking at age 14. She had her first drink at co-star Candace Cameron’s wedding, and things escalated from there.
Throughout high school and college, Jodie was in and out of rehab and picked up a methamphetamine habit on top of her drinking. She had success finding treatment for her addictions, but relapses cost her multiple marriages and the custody of her first child.
4 Mary-Kate And Ashley Were Stubborn And Often Had To Be Bribed With Candy
Because Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were babies and toddlers for the first few seasons, the pair were often difficult to work with on set. Child labor laws kept the twins from being on set too long, so when the cast needed something done, they needed it done quickly and professionally.
The twins often had to be bribed with treats – usually red gummy bears – when the adult cast wanted them to do something. Because no child can deny candy when it’s in front of them, the kids would toss out their catchphrase, “Okay, you got it, dude,” and comply with whatever needed to be done.
5 Dave Coulier Cleared The Set With Savage Farts
While on set, Dave Coulier had no problem breaking wind at any time. According to Saget, the smell was enough to send cast members scattering in all directions. The stench of Coulier’s gas could fill an entire stage, and nobody wanted to deal with it.
His hardcore rips are a recurring feature on gag reels for all eight seasons of Full House.
6 Critics Hated The TV Show
When Full House went on the air, the show had a Friday night time slot that was historically destined to fail. Not only did Full House get a DOA slot, critics absolutely hated the family sitcom, and bashed it every chance they got.
The show received an “F” in People, and critics continued to ravage the show until around the fourth or fifth season, though by then it was already a hit.
7 Mary-Kate And Ashley Olsen Were Credited As One Child Until The Final Season
Since the Full House production crew didn’t want the audience to know they were using twins for the role of Michelle, the Olsens were credited as a single child for most of the series. Instead of appearing separately as Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen, their credits were lumped together as “Mary-Kate Ashley Olsen.”
It wasn’t until Season 8, when the twins had grown noticeably different and were gaining popularity outside of the series, that Full House gave them separate credits as “Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen.”
8 John Stamos Didn’t Like Working With The Olsen Twins And Tried To Get Them Fired
Uncle Jesse wasn’t always the hunky sweetheart who melted hearts with a mere “Have mercy!” The Olsen twins could sometimes be hard to manage on set – throwing tantrums, crying, and basically being babies about the whole thing because, well, they were babies at the time. John Stamos got fed up with the kids ruining takes and urged producers to fire them from the show.
Full House tried using a couple of stand-ins after sending the Olsens off, but they didn’t work out, and the twins were brought back into the family.
9 Cast Members Were Often Scolded For Their Foul Antics And Language On Set
Much of the time, while the adult actors were goofing around and being inappropriate, the kids could see everything that was going on over the studio monitors. The kids admit they knew the adults were continually laughing over lewd jokes, they just didn’t understand them.
Their parents and tutors sure did, and they didn’t hesitate to scold the grown men backstage for foul language, dirty humor, and even running around with their pants off.
10 The Adults Weren’t Shy About Doing Takes With Their Pants Off
Long days on set can be stressful, and the trio of full-grown male comedians found plenty of ways to relieve that tension, including stripping down to their underwear. Saget, Stamos, and Coulier had a tendency to pull pranks on set. On one particularly long day, they got the idea to perform a scene totally pants-less.
While the crew thought the sans-pants take was comedy gold, parents watching backstage with the kids saw everything and weren’t happy.
11 Instead Of Taking Notes, The Cast Drew D*cks During Meetings
Because doodling d*cks on important papers is one of the oldest and most treasured ways to waste time, the adult cast members couldn’t get enough of it. Instead of taking notes, the cast would scribble penises everywhere – especially Bob Saget.
Saget admits he exhibited the maturity of a fifth-grader by drawing d*cks all over papers and proudly showing off his crude masterpieces to Coulier and Stamos afterward.
12 Series Creator Jeff Franklin Left After Season 5 And It’s His Biggest Regret
Although Full House aired for eight seasons, the series creator, Jeff Franklin, left the show after Season 5. When Franklin sold Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper to ABC, the showrunner essentially abandoned his series, and the show didn’t stick around for much longer.
As new producers and writers tinkered with the Full House characters and identity, Franklin had to watch in pain as the show withered until its abrupt cancellation in 1995.
13 The Adult Cast Got High Huffing Nitrous Oxide From Props Backstage
Undermining every ounce of moral capital generated by the Season 3 episode “Just Say No Way,” the adult cast members were no strangers to getting high on set. Bob Saget, Dave Coulier, and John Stamos were close friends who got into their fair share of trouble between takes.
While waiting to be called on set, the trio would make their way backstage and do whatever they felt like to pass the time – including huffing nitrous oxide out of whipped cream canisters meant for a kid’s birthday scene.
14 Rubber Doll Stand-Ins Were Used For Inappropriate Behavior
Because of child labor laws, the kids of Full House could only be on set part-time. Instead of bringing the Olsen twins in for every rehearsal, the cast used a 4-foot rubber stand-in doll to practice their lines and sometimes… crack inappropriate jokes. Bob Saget confessed in his book that the adults would get raunchy with the doll for laughs, often using it as the target of sexually explicit gestures and jokes.
