Bill Cosby: There Will Never Be a Cosby Show Reunion
Zac Efron may be up for doing a High School Musical reunion, but Bill Cosby isn’t feeling the same way about The Cosby Show.
The comedy legend tells me he has no desire to get the Huxtable family back together again.
I caught up with Cosby last night just before he performed (and joined Instagram by posting a 15-second video) at the Funny or Die and Facebook clubhouse at SXSW in Austin.
“No! Because to look at them and see that there really is no more to what we did,” he said when I asked if he there any Cosby Show reunion plans. “We laid out eight years of trying to our best and we did a great job because the people came in numbers of saying the following, ‘I want my house back.'”
“And we took the house back by way of the TV,” he continued. “That’s what I wanted to take it away from. I was tired of seeing little kids, not that they were brighter, not that they were smarter, but they were just ill-mannered children with no respect and writers were giving these lines to these children. I kept thinking these writers must have had a horrible time, horrible experience with the parents.”
The Cosby Show aired for eights seasons from 1984 to 1992. The No. 1 show for five straight years, The Cosby Show was about a black upper middle-class family living in Brooklyn. Cosby starred as Dr. Heathcliff “Cliff” Huxtable along with Phylicia Rashād playing his attorney wife Clair Huxtable. Their children were played by Lisa Bonet, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Tempestt Bledsoe, Keshia Knight Pulliam and Sabrina Le Beauf.
Cosby said he is currently meeting with networks executives about new projects. “I am happy to announce that there are certain networks giving me time to go into their office to explain what I have written and what I want to do and many of them sound very receptive,” he said.
