As the CBS drama Tracker was one of last season’s most-watched entertainment series, a season 2 was almost inevitable.
However, fans were in for a sweet surprise as the renewal came in earlier than expected. The network renewed Tracker for season 2 in March 2024 after only four episodes of the debut season had aired.
While Tracker season 2 is currently in production, CBS has already announced its release date. Additionally, the beloved drama series will have more episodes this time around.
Not to mention, the news of The Boys star Jensen Ackles joining the cast of Tracker as Colter Shaw’s (Justin Hartley) estranged older brother Russell Shaw has made our excitement for the second season even more palpable. After all, the last time Ackles played an older brother, he ended up creating one of the most iconic characters on television (shout out to the Supernatural hive and Dean Winchester fanboys).

What is the CBS show ‘Tracker’ about?
Based on the novel The Never Game by Jeffery Deaver, Tracker follows Colter Shaw, a man who makes a living taking on cases involving missing persons and using his innate ability to track them down in exchange for reward money. The show producers dub it “an old-fashioned show, but an elevated old-fashioned show,” and it certainly does fall under that category, with cases of the week wrapping up at the end of each episode.
What’s the release date of ‘Tracker’ season 2?
CBS recently announced via a video featuring Justin Hartley that Tracker season 2 will premiere on Sunday, 13 October 2024. The airing time will vary depending on your location. For US viewers on the East Coast, Tracker will debut after an NFL doubleheader around 8:30 p.m., while those on the West Coast can catch it at 8 p.m.

Following the 13 episodes of season 1, which aired as a
press tour in July, executive producer Ken Olin announced that season 2 will consist of 22 episodes.
What could be the plot of ‘Tracker’ season 2?
The potential storyline for the second season of Tracker could involve Colter travelling across North America to collaborate with law enforcement and civilians and solve challenging cases. The focus will also be on the ongoing family drama surrounding Colter.
Executive producer Elwood Reid, in an interview with TV Insider at the Television Critics Association press tour, emphasised the complexity of Colter’s family background, hinting at revelations about his past and the impact of family dysfunction on his character.
Additionally, viewers can anticipate more in-depth character development for other key figures in the series, including Colter’s elder brother, with new storylines and relationships unfolding.
Who will make the cast in season 2?
Justin Hartley as Colter, Sofia Pernas as fellow reward seeker Billie Matalon and Wendy Crewson as Mary Dove Shaw are all set to return in the upcoming season. Joining them will be Melissa Roxburgh from Manifest, portraying Colter’s younger sister Dory, and Jensen Ackles from Supernatural and The Boys, taking on the role of Colter’s estranged brother Russell Shaw.
Other cast members will include Robin Weigert as Teddi Bruin, Abby McEnany as Velma Bruin, Eric Graise as Bob Exley and Fiona Rene as Reenie Greene.
