Emergency, Emergency! TV’s Best Doctors Just Joined Forces at the Emmys
There’s been countless TV doctors over the years, saving lives and inspiring tears, but three of the most memorable just got a special moment at the 2024 Emmys.
Mindy Kaling of The Mindy Project, Mekhi Phifer of ER and Zach Braff of Scrubs entered the stage in a faux emergency room and talked about what inspired them to pursue roles as surgeons and physicians.
“I was inspired not just by the actors on the series but by actual physicians I’ve known,” said Phifer.
Kaling said she was motivated by “my own mother, an OBGYN.”
Braff, though, was simply “waiting tables and serving the universally gracious people of Beverly Hills” while consuming 7-11 hot dogs. He “was inspired to not live like that anymore.”
Lamorne Morris Teases Daughter Lily for ‘Always’ Doubting Him as He Wins First Emmy
New Girl alum Lamorne Morris just won an Emmy for outstanding supporting actor in a limited or anthology series or movie for his work on Fargo.
And while he thanked “god for allowing me to be here” and his mother for being his “biggest champion ever,” there was someone else who deserved a special shout-out: his daughter Lily.
“My beautiful daughter Lily, I told you I would do it, you always doubted me,” he teased.
Morris previously shared video of the moment he learned of his Emmy nod. In the clip, Morris cried as his daughter looked on.
“Daddy, are you crying again?” she asked him various times before he said to the person on the phone, “Oh, God. Lily’s like, ‘Are you crying, Daddy?’ ” He then took a moment to tell her, “Yes, baby. Daddy’s crying.”
He joked about the moment in the caption, writing, “When I got the call about the Emmy nomination, my daughter thought it would be great to make fun of me.”
The Childless Cat Ladies Take Over the Emmys!
Multiple stars have jabbed at Republican vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance during the 2024 Emmy Awards.
First, Selena Gomez teased her Only Murders in the Building costars Martin Short and Steve Martin during a show segment, saying, “Let me say, what an honor it is to work with two men who are this far away from being childless cat ladies.”
Vance previously used the phrase to describe Democratic presidential nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, 59.
Later on Sunday, Candice Bergen took the Emmys stage.
“For 11 years, I had the tremendous privilege of playing the lead in a comedy series called Murphy Brown,” said Bergen. “I was surrounded by brilliant and funny actors, had the best scripts to work with, and in one classic moment, my character was attacked by vice president Dan Quayle when Murphy became pregnant and decided to raise the baby as a single mother.”
“Oh how far we’ve come,” Bergen, who has a daughter, said sarcastically. “Today, a Republican candidate for vice president would never attack a woman for having kids. So as they say, my work here is done. Meow!”
