Bridgerton boss talks about the show’s future and reveals plans for season 4
Is Benedict Bridgerton the main focus of season four?
Bridgerton showrunner Jess Brownell has spoken about the future of the hit Netflix show, revealing she has a “map” of where she wants the series to go “over the next few seasons”.
In a new interview, Jess revealed that season four is currently in the works after being renewed alongside season three in 2021.
When asked about her plans for the show beyond season three, the showrunner said: “Well, if we’re going to run for as long as I hope, I have a map in my head of where I want to go in the next few seasons, which is important for us to know so we don’t waste too much story and so we can get through the characters’ journeys properly.
“Where we’re going I can’t say exactly yet, but we’re in the middle of season four and I’m so excited to finally be able to share what we’re working on.”
As fans will know, the hit drama is based on Julia Quinn’s book series about the eight Bridgerton siblings in Regency-era London.
The first season, which became a lockdown phenomenon when it was released in 2020, followed the love story of Daphne with Bridgerton, with the second season in 2022 continuing the story of eldest son Anthony.
While the first two seasons follow the order of the series, the third season focuses on Colin’s romance with Penelope Featherington, rather than Benedict’s. This has fans wondering who might be the focus of the fourth season.
Talking about the upcoming series, Jess told The Hollywood Reporter: “There’s a chance we’ll continue it out of order. I’m really excited about Benedict’s journey in season three. It feels like it’s too early for him to settle down.
“He’s a very passionate character and we want him to go on a few more adventures before we get to his part.”
The latest series of the Netflix romance, which is split into two seasons, follows the friends-to-lovers story between Colin and Penelope.
In season one, we saw Penelope determined to find a husband to leave home and escape her mother and sisters. Meanwhile, Colin returns from his Grand Tour of Europe to find Penelope cold towards him following his remarks at the Featherington Ball at the end of season two.
The synopsis continues: “Desperate to win back his friendship, Colin offers to coach Penelope on confidence to help her find a husband this season.
“But when his lessons start to have a little too much effect, Colin struggles with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendship.”
