Bridgerton Season 2 Character Analysis

Everything you need to know about the Bridgerton family tree and more!

Bridgerton is back for a second season after becoming an instant hit for Netflix during the 2020 holiday season. The lavishly detailed adaptation of Julia Quinn’s romance novels instantly captivated audiences with its tale of love, betrayal, and seduction in Regency England.

After debuting on Christmas Day, Bridgerton shot to the top of Netflix’s charts and introduced a whole new audience to the historical romance genre. The new season continues to follow the Bridgerton cast, but this time focuses on the eldest son, Anthony. Taking Quinn’s second book in the series, The Viscount Who Loved Me, as its main inspiration, Bridgerton season two is a slower-paced but no less engaging affair, with new and old faces for viewers to get to know. The hit show also made our list of the Biggest New Shows (and Seasons) Coming in 2022!

Here’s our guide to the main characters in Bridgerton Season 2.

Anthony Bridgerton

The eldest of the eight Bridgerton siblings, Anthony is the head of the family following the tragic passing of his father. Season one sees the young viscount trying to navigate his family obligations alongside his own personal desires, as he tries to guide his sister Daphne about her marriage prospects while having an affair with opera singer Siena. After putting off finding a wife for a long time, Anthony finally decides to tie the knot at the end of season one. In season two, he plans to find the perfect partner without love complicating matters, but the arrival of the Sharma family throws his carefully laid plans into disarray. As tensions rise between him and Kate, Anthony struggles to cope with the burden of responsibility and pain he has never dealt with.

Kate Sharma

For fans of Quinn’s novels, Kate Sharma is often considered one of the most beloved characters in the entire series, and it’s not hard to see why. Kate, an Indian woman newly arrived in London with her sister and mother, is a headstrong woman who puts family first. She has little time for high society intrigue and endless talk of marriage. Her priority, rather than securing her husband, is ensuring that her sister Edwina finds someone to love. Anthony is attracted to both Sharma women, but when Kate discovers that the Viscount is not interested in love, she becomes determined to stop him from getting any closer to Edwina. What she doesn’t take into account are her own feelings and the undeniable connection between her and Anthony.

Edwina Sharma

Of the Sharma sisters, Edwina is considered the most eligible candidate for marriage, and Kate is keen to ensure that her sister finds someone worthy of her. She is a little naive about what to expect from the surprisingly cutthroat world of marriage, but she also believes firmly in her quest for true love. With Kate by her side, she may find the ideal husband. But not Anthony Bridgerton.

Mary Sharma

Lady Mary Sharma returns to London for the first time since leaving England amid a major scandal. Her well-to-do family has been disgraced when Mary falls in love with and marries a widower from India of no peerage, who already has a daughter — young Kate — from his previous marriage. They elope to Bombay and remain there until Mary decides it is time for Edwina to make her debut. Not only is she trying to make her way back into British society, but she’s also ready to stand up for herself after decades of being ridiculed by her so-called peers. Expect plenty of scenes with her trusty corgi Newton.

Benedict Bridgerton

The third Bridgerton sibling, Benedict doesn’t have as much pressure as Anthony and Daphne did in the first season. However, he knows he has responsibilities that he can’t run away from. We see him explore his creative talents for much of the first season and befriend the artist Sir Henry Granville, who invites him to parties where he can freely unleash his desires.
