Bridgerton Season 4 Has Been Cast
Bridgerton season 3 hasn’t even officially premiered yet, but fans are already looking ahead to the future.
Speaking to People, Julia Quinn, the author of the original books on which the hit show is based, opened up about the show’s future heading into season 4, admitting that the love story the show will focus on has already been cast and locked in.
“I can’t say a word, I’d be in so much trouble,” Quinn told the publication at the world premiere of Bridgerton season 3, which took place at a New York City premiere on May 13, 2024, before admitting, “I know, but I can’t say yes.”
In case you haven’t delved into Bridgerton lore, the Netflix hit, which first debuted in December 2020, is based on Quinn’s novel series of the same name. The Bridgerton book series consists of eight Regency romance novels, published between 2000 and 2006. Like the show, each book focuses on one of the eight Bridgerton siblings and, of course, their love lives.
Seasons 1 and 2 of Netflix’s Bridgerton are based on Quinn’s first two books, focusing on Daphne Bridgerton (played by Phoebe Dynevor on the show) and Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey). However, Netflix and Shondaland are doing things a little differently for season 3, moving to Quinn’s fourth book, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, which follows the friends-to-lovers romance between Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan).
Fans have speculated that season 4 of Bridgerton could return once again and adapt Quinn’s third book, An Offer From a Gentleman, which focuses on the story of Benedict Bridgerton, a character played by Luke Thompson on the show. The other most logical option would be to continue through to episode five, which follows Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie).
Before we get to season 4, though, Quinn wants people to enjoy season 3, not just for its addictive love story, but for everything. “Obviously the romance, and Nicola and Luke are amazing, but the cast is so good, and there are so many little moments with everyone, which I think is wonderful,” she told People.
INCYMI: Bridgerton was renewed for seasons 3 and 4 at the same time in 2021. While no additional seasons have been added since then, the hope is to adapt Quinn’s entire book to the screen. “[There are] four [seasons] signed on, but Shonda [Rhimes] is saying eight, and she’s the headliner,” Quinn added. “We’re not necessarily going in order, but we’re going to see each sibling and their story,” Rhimes previously told Entertainment Tonight. She also revealed to Variety that she’s already planning for “season 6 or maybe season 7.” What else can we say? Prepare for surprises.
