Friends star Matthew Perry passed away in October 2023, and this was hard on his co-stars from the series, given how close they remained with one another. Courteney Cox recently commented on losing her good friend, sharing how she feels like he’s still around in a spiritual sense.
Per CBS News, Cox addressed the closeness she still has with her Friends co-stars up to this day. She spoke about how her co-stars were her “family” at the time of filming, and she couldn’t be more grateful to have had that experience. Cox also commented on her belief that Perry’s still around to help guide her through life, similar to what she feels with loved ones who’ve passed away.
“I’m just grateful that I had that opportunity to work with such wonderful people, and to live the life that I have now,” as Cox explained. “That was my family. I mean, we went through everything. Those ten years were everything – they’re my family.”
On Perry, Cox added, “I think he’s probably one of the funniest human beings in the world. You know, he’s just so funny. He is genuinely a huge heart, obviously struggled. I’m so thankful I got to work so closely with him for so many years. He visits me a lot, if we believe in that.”
“Oh yeah,” Cox responded when asked if she still feels Perry’s presence. “You know, I talk to my mom, my dad, Matthew – I feel like there are a lot of people that are, I think, that guide us. I do sense, yeah, I sense Matthew’s around for sure.”
Perry was found deceased in a hot tub on Oct. 28, 2023, at the age of 54. His death was attributed to multiple factors, including the effects of ketamine and buprenorphine, drowning, and coronary artery disease. After his passing, Cox shared a post on Instagram to address the loss while paying tribute to Perry.

“I am so grateful for every moment I had with you Matty and I miss you every day,” she said. “When you work with someone as closely as I did with Matthew, there are thousands of moments I wish I could share. For now here’s one of my favorites.”
She added, “To give a little backstory, Chandler and Monica were supposed to have a one night fling in London. But because of the audience’s reaction, it became the beginning of their love story.
In this scene, before we started rolling, he whispered a funny line for me to say. He often did things like that. He was funny and he was kind.”
