Emma Stone Explains Her Special Connection to Three-Time Costar Sally Field: ‘I Just Love Her’Emma Stone and her three-time costar Sally Field have a special bond.
After Stone, 35, won Best Actress at the 96th Academy Awards on Sunday, she told Good Morning America that getting onstage with presenters Field, 77, Jennifer Lawrence, Michelle Yeoh, Charlize Theron and Jessica Lange “was incredible.”
“I wish that they did that every year, it was so beautiful,” Stone said of the Academy’s presentation for acting awards, which featured five past winners recognizing each nominee before announcing each awards’ winner.
“And Sally Field I’ve gotten to work with three times. We have the same birthday,” the Poor Things actress said of Field. Both stars celebrate their birthdays on November 6.
“I just love her and what she was saying — all of those women I admire so much and look up to so much, so it was it was really [special],” she told the outlet.”Curious as a puppy and hungry as a bear, Emma Stone’s brilliant Bella is unhinged, uninhibited and completely original,” Field said of Stone’s Poor Things character as each presenter feted each nominee at Sunday’s Oscars ceremony.
“With the fearlessness of a toddler, she awkwardly steps into the world, awakening into her body and the sensations of being alive without boundaries,” she added. “It is an unforgettable and endearing character created by an actor who is always surprising, who refuses to be categorized and like Bella, is completely original. Bravo, Emma.”

Stone could be seen beaming as Field spoke to her Poor Things performance before winning the award Sunday. The pair were later seen embracing backstage after Stone accepted her second Best Actress Oscar (she previously won for La La Land in in 2017.) The two actresses each appeared in 2012 and 2014’s Amazing Spider-Man movies and also worked together on the 2018 Netflix miniseries Maniac. After Stone addressed a wardrobe malfunction and shared that her “voice is also a little gone,” while accepting the Best Actress honor on Sunday, she spoke to Poor Things’ success as a group effort: the Yorgos Lanthimos-directed movie ultimately won four awards, second-most among all movies nominated.
“The other night, I was panicking, as you can kind of see, happens a lot. That maybe something like this could happen, and Yorgos said to me, ‘Please take yourself out of it,’ ” Stone said during her speech. “And he was right, because it’s not about me. It’s about a team that came together to make something greater than the sum of its parts. And that is the best part about making movies. It’s all of us together.”
