Justin Hartley has won over fans with his work on Smallville and This Is Us, and now he’s taking on a whole new character with his role on CBS’s Tracker, which is currently airing its first season. Hartley plays survivor Colter Shaw, who travels the country as a “bounty tracker,” helping private citizens and law enforcement solve all sorts of mysterious disappearances with his expert tracking skills (get the name?). Meanwhile, Shaw, a lone wolf, has his own troubled personal life to deal with.

Is Tracker Based on a Book?
The new TV series Tracker is an adaptation of Jeffery Deaver’s best-selling book series The Never Game (the show was originally going to share the name with the source material, but the title was changed to Tracker in early 2023).

The book’s description reads as follows: Colter Shaw is an itinerant “bounty seeker” who travels the country helping police solve crimes and citizens find missing persons. When he learns of a reward for a missing college student in Silicon Valley, he takes the job. The investigation quickly plunges him into the dark heart of Silicon Valley and the cutthroat, multi-billion-dollar video game industry – and then a second kidnapping occurs… and this victim is dead.

Clues soon point to a video game, The Never Game, in which players must survive being abandoned. Is a madman breathing life into it? If so, Shaw must stop him before he strikes again… and before he discovers Shaw is after him.

Justin Hartley plays Colter Shaw, a survival expert who travels across the country solving mysteries for both law enforcement and citizens by using his skills as, you guessed it, a tracker! Shaw’s home life is also falling apart, which is sure to happen throughout the series.

Robin Weigert plays Teddi Bruin, one half of the couple who runs Shaw’s “backstage.” A former band manager turned middle-aged Florida native, Teddi tracks Shaw’s money, finds new cases, and helps defuse any incidents along the way, like arrests or other unpleasant encounters. She works from the comfortable home she shares with her wife, Velma, and their pets.
