Flyers players arrive for Devils game dressed as ROCKY… while New Jersey stars pay homage to ‘The Sopranos’ ahead of MetLife Stadium clash in NHL Stadium Series

Players from the New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia Flyers channeled the spirit of local cult-heroes ahead of their NHL Stadium Series matchup.

Flyers stars showed up to Saturday’s game dressed up as fictional boxer Rocky Balboa, who hailed from Philadelphia in the famed movie series.

The team wore matching grey sweatsuits and black hats, with white towels around their necks and white tape wrapped around their hands – much like how Balboa looked when training for his fights in the films.
Devils players, on the other hand, showed up to work in colorful tracksuits, white t-shirts, and with jewelry around their necks, resembling characters from The Sopranos. The iconic series revolves around Tony Soprano – a New Jersey-based mobster.

Devils players Timo Meier and Jesper Bratt even posed for pictures sipping from espresso cups as if they were drinking outside of the iconic Satriale’s Pork Store.

The 29-19 Flyers and the 27-22 Devils will go head-to-head at MetLife Stadium on Saturday night.

Players from both teams – as well as those from the New York Rangers – were seen testing the newly-installed ice on Thursday night in preparation for the highly anticipated Stadium Series games.
‘You just never know where these games go,’ Flyers coach John Tortorella said.

‘There’s a lot of things going around the players. It’s my job just to just get the team ready to play after they´re done with their families, just to get them ready to play. A very important game for us.’

During the two team’s previous matchup the Flyers were able to come away with a hard fought 3-2 win in overtime back on December 19.
