Former ‘Cosby’ show actor Geoffrey Owens works with Tyler Perry
After getting a job with Tyler Perry shortly after being shamed for working at Trader Joe’s, things are at an all-time high for Geoffrey Owens.
The previously unemployed actor was cast in 11 episodes of Perry’s “The Haves and the Have Nots.” His debut is set for Tuesday.
“When he showed up the first day, I saw him in costume, I had 20,000 more ideas running through my head about him,” Perry told “Good Morning America” in a new interview. that”.
Perry, 49, added that he could relate to the financial struggles Owens went through.
“To get to this place, just to see both sides of this place, is truly incredible,” Perry said. “And that’s why I feel… I’m for the underdog.”
There seems to be mutual respect between the men. Owens, 57, said the opportunity to work with Perry was “amazing.” Perry wrote the role of the senator for Owens and brought him into the show at the last minute.
“I don’t think that’s ever happened to me before,” the “Cosby Show” alum said. “Basically, I’m really proud and excited to be a part of his world. He is so inspiring.”
In the time since his story went viral, Owens not only landed a job with Perry, but he also landed a role on “NCIS: New Orleans.”
And the acting offers continued to come.
“Maybe this is the real cause that will bridge the divide in our country,” Owens quipped. “Maybe it’s like this. This is how we come together.”
