Fran Drescher Teases Revival of '90s Sitcom The Nanny

Fran Drescher recently teased people about a revival to The Nanny. Fans can only hope that her “big announcement” is in fact The Nanny season 7.
Anybody who was watching CBS in the 90s remembers when Fran Drescher became a nanny. Well, they remember when she played a nanny in the sitcom titled The Nanny. Fans of the show may be in luck, as Drescher just teased a revival of her iconic 90s show.

The Nanny ran from 1993 to 1999 for six seasons and 145 episodes, on CBS. Drescher played the main character, Fran Fine, but she also created and produced the show with her then-husband, Peter Marc Jacobson. The show is said to be inspired by Drescher’s own life and was about a woman who became a nanny after losing her job and her boyfriend. Fran Fine ends up at the Sheffield home where she falls in love with Maxwell Sheffield and has adventures with his three children, their butler, and Maxwell’s business partner named C.C. Babcock. While the Golden Globe-nominated show was well known in its heyday, The Nanny may be the next television series to get a revival.
When talking with Entertainment Tonight at a charity concert about a possible Nanny revival, Drescher announced that, “We’re working on a very big project. It’s going to be very exciting for the fans, but I’m not at liberty to announce it yet. But it’s going to be big”. With this year marking the show’s 25th anniversary, time obviously continued in the fictional world of the Sheffield’s. Drescher also made note that an older Fran Fine would be much more involved in any type of social issue from, “environmental issues, to health, to civil liberties”.
With Roseanne being recently canceled by ABC, the network may be looking for something else to take its place. While Drescher was not specific on what the big announcement is going to be, she seemed genuinely excited about a Nanny revival. With the show being off the air for nearly 20 years, The Nanny season 7 might just be exactly what the doctor prescribed.

TV networks currently seem to be stuck on the 90s. In the past few years, fans have been treated to a revival of Will & Grace, a sequel to Full House, and a few new seasons of The X-Files. Even Will Smith’s The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was at one point thought to be getting a reboot. With the interest in 90s television being clearly present from both viewers and producers, now could be exactly the right time to give The Nanny a revival.
The Nanny may be criticized by some, but the show has a big enough fan base that a revival really does have the potential to make some money. With the obvious interest by Drescher and the support the show has received from fans, a Nanny revival may not be a question of if, but a question of when. For the time being, The Nanny fans will just have to look forward to Drescher’s big announcement with their fingers crossed.
