Christine Lakin, who was supposed to have a role in Fuller House season 2, has accused the show of firing her because of Candace Cameron Bure. She reprised her Full House role on the cast of Fuller House as D.J. Tanner-Fuller, where she led as a single mother raising her three sons after the death of her husband. Multiple characters, new and old, appeared throughout the series, meaning there was room for actors like Lakin to show up. However, the Step by Step star didn’t end up appearing in the series despite originally having a role meant for season 2.
Speaking with Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber on their podcast How Rude, Tanneritos! (via People), Lakin accused Cameron Bure as being the reason why she was fired from her role on Fuller House before it could even begin. The actor described how she was let go just days before a table reading of season 2 with little explanation as to why. She believes her firing had something to do with a video she participated in making fun of Bure’s brother, Kirk Cameron, for anti-LGBTQ+ comments. Check out what Lakin had to say below:

Lakin’s story isn’t the only time the Fuller House lead has been accused of association with anti-LGBTQ+ sentiments, including some actions and comments of her own. In 2022, speaking as the chief creative officer of the Great American Family network, Cameron Bure said the channel would only show couples from “traditional marriage” without LGBTQ+ couples involved. She was also indirectly accused by Miss Benny of trying to get her character removed from the show because of her identity, something the lead actor later denied.
While Fuller House ended without Lakin making the appearance she was supposed to, it appears her story has plenty of circumstantial evidence to back it up. This includes the comments made by Kirk Cameron, whose evangelist sermons also led to two gatherings of maskless people during Christmas 2020, at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. Given the history of controversy surrounding both figures in recent years, it seems the Step by Step actors’ story likely has plenty of truth behind why she was fired.
Even though Cameron Bure had denied being anti-LGBTQ+ herself, the comments her brother made and Lakin’s subsequent mocking of them could have led to her being denied a role seven years later. While it’s unclear if the Fuller House star will ever address her claims, the evidence seems clear that there is a negative spark between the two because of past events. However, only time will tell if more truth about the situation will arise, including the D.J. actor’s perspective on what transpired.
